My dad gets up to greet me, he awkwardly hugs me. I don't move, my body goes stiff at his touch. His eyes move to look behind me. "Who's this Nessie, your friend?"

"Boyfriend." Rafe steps round me and offers his hand out to my father, correcting his earlier assumption.

As soon as he says it I look at mom who snaps her eyes to look at me, a grin bigger than the Cheshire cats spreading on her face. She mouths a 'WHAT' to me but I shake my head and let her know I'll tell her later. She accepts this and I turn back to Rafe and my father who are stood shaking hands, glaring at each other.

"Rafe Cameron." Rafe adds pulling his hand away from my dad and placing it on my lower back.

"Wards son?" My dad asks in disbelief. Rafe nods. "Wow, you've grown up a lot." A surprised expression flashes on my fathers face as he looks up at Rafe. "Aren't you a bit young for a boyfriend, Nessie?"

Wanting to scream curse words in my fathers face at him trying to have a say in my life, I bite my tongue. "You'd be surprised how mature your daughter is for her age. Besides, I'm no stranger. Me and Nessa have known each other forever." Rafe answers before I get the chance. He squeezes my side trying his best to reassure me.

My father looks between the two of us with uncertainty before turning his back and retaking his seat. "Where's my son?" He sighs with impatience.

"He hasn't been home since this morning." My mother tells him, her voice shaky with anxiety from his presence.

"So you wanted me to come all the way down here to take Topper away from his home and now he's not even here." He growls with irritation. I can feel Rafe's eyes on me confused by my fathers words. He probably wants to know why one of his best friends is about to leave the island. I choose to ignore him. "I suppose I best go and find him to tell him his poor excuse of a mother is kicking him out then."

The way he talks about my mother sends me over the edge. The rage rising to the surface ready to spill excessively over the edge.

"How dare you call her a poor excuse of a mother!" I blurt out the words before I realise what I'm saying.

"Sweetie, it's okay..." my mom begins trying to diffuse the situation about to erupt.

"No Mom, it's not okay!" I tell her, my voice still raised. "You dare come into our home and start name calling the woman who raised me and my brother for the last 18 years! If she's a poor excuse of a mother after working her arse off to give us the best life possible all on her own, being there for us through everything whilst you weren't here pretending we don't exist; I would love to know what that makes you. You're a stranger to me. As far as I'm aware I don't have a father. You're a pathetic excuse for a human being and you're not taking my brother anywhere! I want you out of my house. Now." The tears of anger pricking the back of my eyes. Rafe's arm tightens around my waist.

My father laughs cynically. "What did you just say to me." He stands to his feet, strolling over to me. His eyes fixing in on me.

Rafe stands in front of me, glaring down at my dad who is now stood in front of him. "You heard exactly what she said. I think it's time you leave."

He clenches his jaw, balling his fists. "You tryna play hero, big boy."

Rafe smirks. "Why don't you try me and find out."

He doesn't stay to find out. Instead he walks towards the living room door before turning to my mother. "Tell my son I stopped by won't you Jen?"

"Dad?" We all turn to look at the doorway to see Topper stood there his mouth agape and his eyes wide.

"Hey son." The stranger in my living room sighs realising this situation just got a lot more awkward.

"What are you doing here?" Topper walks into the living room, his eyes fall on me and Rafe.

"Rafe? What are you doing here? Can someone please tell me what's going on?" He looks at mom for some answers but she doesn't know what to say.

"Your mother called me after what happened this morning. She wanted you to come and stay with me." He explains to Topper.

Topper keeps his eyes on mom, betrayal appears on his face. "You what?" His voice shaky.

"Top, I'm so sorry. I panicked this morning after you did that to your sister..." Rafe snaps to look at me and then down at my neck. "I don't want him to take you, I won't let him!" My mother stands up and walks over to Topper sobbing guiltily. Topper steps away from her.

"You did what to your sister!" Rafe exclaims furiously, already knowing the answer after putting the pieces together.

Topper completely ignores him and fixates on mom. Still in disbelief that his father is here. "You wanted to kick me out?"

"What did you expect me to do? You tried choking your sister!" Our mother defends her choices. What Topper did to me earlier still hasn't sunk into his system, unsure if it ever will. He just sees himself as the victim here.

"You fucking did that to your sister!" Rafe strides towards Topper gripping him by the collar. I chase after him trying to pull his arm back.

"Rafe, get off him!" I yell pleadingly.

"No Nessa, he fucking did that to your neck! I'm not having it!" He shouts.

"Rafe, get the fuck off me. What's it got to do with you!" Topper tries shoving Rafe back but he doesn't move.

"Rafe!" I scream. Once realising I'm on the verge of a breakdown he lets go of my brother.

"The fuck was that about man!" Topper shakes his head at Rafe.

"I think it's best if you go." The stranger comes over to Rafe.

"I thought you got told to leave!" Rafe barks at him.

"Don't talk to our dad like that!" Topper defends the stranger stood in our living room.

"He's not my dad. I don't have one." I declare, looking at him with pure hatred.

"I'm leaving. I don't have to put up with this shit. I left for a reason." He states before storming out the room and we hear the front door slam.
