Kie stops in her tracks as soon as she hears me behind her. Turning to me with hurt filled eyes, the guilt surges through me.

"You knew how much I liked him!" Is all she manages to croak out, her eyes glossed over with tears.

"Kie I know, I know you liked him but so did I!" I cry pleadingly.

"Then why didn't you say anything!" She raises her voice, her tone laced with hurt and anger.

"You're acting like you it wouldn't have turned out like this even if I did!" I point out the obvious hoping she'll realise I'm right.

She goes quiet before her voice becomes low. "I still deserved to know."

"You're right Kie, maybe you did. But I've loved him since I was 11 years old! He was my first kiss for god sake. I loved him first and I'm not sorry that he loves me back." I declare unapologetically. How could I apologise for something that isn't my fault? I've loved him from the moment I was old enough to understand that romance existed, that feelings existed. I've know him my entire life and I've loved him for more than half of it.

"You love each other?" She breathes out inaudibly, barely above a whisper. It was like she was choking on the words.

"Yes Kie. We do. Now can you honestly say you love him. Can you happily go over to him and truthfully tell him you're in love with him." I watch her searching her mind for her feelings because somewhere deep down her head and her heart lost connection.

"No." She squeaks, tears threatening to spill on her water line.

"I'm sorry for not telling you how I feel about him but I don't want to lose you over a boy Kie. You mean too much to me, that's why it was so hard for me to tell you."

She doesn't say anything. The silence between us is deafening. She's thinking. Thinking long and hard.

Then she does the last thing I expect. She hugs me. I don't hesitate before hugging her back. "You're right I don't love him. It's just a silly little crush, I'll get over that. He's not worth losing you." She cries into my shoulder.

"I love you Kie."

"I love you V."

Rafe POV:

I got all three pogues staring directly at me with potential murder on their mind. Where the hell is Nessa, would she just hurry up already.

"Listen boys, I'm gonna be real straight with you whilst we're sat here. Honestly I've never had a problem with you all." Pope scoffs making me pause slightly before continuing. "No seriously. Nessa's brother hates you but I don't have a problem with you." I tell them truthfully.

"Nessa? Is that some sort of nickname?" JJ glares with hateful eyes.

Nodding realising it's gonna take a while for me to get through to him. "You could say that."

"Why are you still sat here, Rafe?" John B points out the obvious elephant in the room.

"What I wanted to say, is that I'm sorry for any past shit I've done or said okay? I want what's best for my Nessa and if that's making amends with her best friends, I'll do whatever it takes to see a smile on her face." I get up from the booth ready to walk away after sharing my peace.

"Rafe." John B calls after me.
"Sit down." Pope adds.
"Buy us a drink." JJ orders.

A small smirk tugs at my lips once realising I've managed to get through to them. The one thing I have in common with these guys: we all want to see Nessa happy. I shout an order to the bar for four beers before sitting back down with the pogues.

"Thanks for hearing me out."

"We just want to see her happy." JJ's frown upturns slightly alongside his response.

Vanessa POV:

Walking back into the wreck Kie disappears back behind the bar, I head back towards the booth when commotion echoes through the diner.

I arrive back to my seat to find Rafe and my friends laughing and joking. I reluctantly sit down beside my boyfriend, confused by what I've missed.

"Hey baby, everything okay?" He greets me with a smile as soon as he sees me, wrapping his arm around me pulling me closer.

"Never better." I grin at the sight of my favourite people getting along. "What was you all laughing at?"

"They were just telling me about the time you got drunk at the chateau and managed to fall off the peer." They all begin chuckling once again at the expense of an embarrassing story of mine.

"Guys are you serious! Don't even tell him anything else embarrassing about me or your embarrassing stories are getting spread through town!" I warn them, my cheeks burning red.

The three boys hold their hands up in surrender. A silent plead for their egos to stay intact.

"It's okay babe, I love you embarrassing stories an all." He pecks my cheek.

Our table is suddenly shadowed.

"Rafe can I talk to you real quick." Kie is no longer wearing her apron which means her shift is finished.

Rafe looks at me unsure what his answer should be. My heart bursting at the seams the fact he's practically asking for permission. I nod moving out the way so he can leave the booth. He presses a gentle kiss to my lips before following behind Kie as they walk out the restaurant.

"What have they got to talk about?" Pope questions me his tone filled with uncertainty.

I smile to myself. "Nothing you guys need to worry about."

Rafe POV:

I can feel my palms becoming clammy as I stand staring down at Kie praying I don't say the wrong thing to ruin Nessa's day.

"So Rafe, I just wanted to tell you any feelings that I once had for you are no longer there." She begins. "I know something happened between us but for our sake and V's sake I think it's best we just pretend nothing ever happened."

"Sounds like a plan to me." I shrug feeling uncomfortable under her stare. It's strange how I'm more worried about this encounter with Kie than I was with all three pogues. "I never wanted to hurt you Kie. I just ended up realising Nessa was the one later than I'd hoped. No hard feelings, what you say?" I hold my arms out hoping she'll take me up on my offer.

She hesitates for a second before letting me embrace her in a short hug. "I love how you call her Nessa, you two are meant for each other. Don't mess this up Rafe." Her voice vibrates my shoulder.

"I wouldn't dream of it Kie, I plan on her being my Nessa forever." I assure her before we head back inside.
