Mateo and Eric were out buying groceries at the target by their apartment.  They would have gone to Cloud 9, but since the stores closed almost everywhere, Mateo didn't have an employee discount anymore, and the closest Cloud 9 was on the other side of town, so they decided to go elsewhere.

Eric was pushing a cart and reading a list on his phone while Mateo walked next to him and put things in the cart.  While he was looking at the next item on the list, he felt a hand slip into his.

Mateo had been having a bit of a long day it seemed, and they had only gotten to the store a few minutes ago.  They had a lot of things they still needed to put in the cart.  He also didn't want to be home alone though, so he came with anyway.  He was kind of regretting that choice now, so he was trying to make himself feel better by holding Eric's hand.

"You okay?" Eric's voice was quiet, and he tightened his grip on Mateo's hand.

Mateo nodded, "I'm just ready to go home."

"Should we just go home now?" Eric rubbed his hand, "we can do this tomorrow, you know."

Mateo shook his head and sighed, "No... we shouldn't just go home.  I just am having a bad day."

Eric nodded slowly, "Okay... is this helping?" He lifted both of their hands.

Mateo nodded, "I think so."

That was all Eric needed to know.  If that bit of touch was helping, he had no problem keeping a hold of Mateo's hand and pushing the cart one handed.
