Jonah had been tasked with picking Carter up from school while Amy got Parker from middle school. Because the elementary school was so close to his and Amy's home, he decided to walk.
The walk back was filled with talk about their class raising chicks in a couple of weeks. Carter was so excited while he was talking about it, he forgot to look both ways crossing the street, and it wasn't particularly busy, but being close to the school, there were some cars.
Jonah was quick to grab his hand and pull him back so he didn't get hit, "Carter! Please be careful, we have to look both ways remember?"
Carter looked up, and there were a few cars, "Sorry daddy..."
"It's okay. Come on, we're almost home." Jonah gave Carter a reassuring smile, and they were able to cross safely soon after. After that it was only a couple of blocks. Carter's hand didn't leave Jonah's until they walked in the house, just to be safe.
