Kija ducked outside, the stairwell door closed behind her. She squared her shoulders and put on her poker face. If she was going to apologize, no way would she let Bakugo get an entitlement high off it.
The door slammed open. Explosions went off in Bakugo's hand, his back was hunched like a gremlin. He whipped around to face Kija. She stood away from the wall and met his eye. Now came the punishment for delaying this.
Bakugo stalked forward, "Shitty Portals."
Could he not come up with a more original name?
"I'm going to fight you," He spit the words out, "And you're going to lose like the pathetic loser you are!" His voice raised above the explosions in his hand, "And when I do," Bakugo put his face mere inches from Kija's. His eyes tiny boiling in their own rage, "You're going to stay in your fucking place."
...what?
"My place?" Kija hissed. She rose, gaining another inch on Bakugo. Her blood boiled, ready to tear Bakugo to shreds for insinuating for a single, solitary second, that Kija had a place that was in any way, shape or form, inferior to someone else. Least of all himself.
Kija clicked her jaw, refusing to back down from Bakugo's glare. Apologizing now would only give Bakugo the satisfaction of thinking he'd won this arbitrary game they were playing. Besides, who the fuck did he think he was? Her place. God, for saying that he just made one for himself in an active volcano if Kija didn't change her mind.
Kija didn't want to put off apologizing any longer, but doing it here, when Bakugo was challenging her, insinuating she was inferior, would only make his twisted morals think he was right.
Fuck no. That was what Kija had aimed to stop.
The few inches Kija had on Bakugo were helping her here.
"You want to fight?" She hissed, "Fine." She threw open a portal and snapped her fingers. Both her and Bakugo's gym clothes replaced their school uniforms, Bakugo didn't flinch.
"Quirks, all out, and you better have improved since last time." Kija leaned down to Bakugo's level, "Because I'm not done with you yet. Mr. Next Number One Hero."
~~~
"GET BACK HERE!"
Bakugo threw a right hook and Portals dodged. He threw his arm out and blasted another explosion at her. Sweat dripped from his brow down to his arms while he screamed.
"LAND A HIT ALREADY!"
Smoke fumed from the fire, clouding the field. Bakugo knew no extra would dare interfere, not at the farthest training field. He panted. Fuck, it'd been ten minutes already, and Shitty Portals had refused to land a hit.
She was toying with him, mocking his abilities, and he'd kill her for that.
Bakugo sensed a portal open behind him—since when could he do that—and whipped around.
A foot connected with his chest. Bakugo slammed to the ground. He spit and pushed himself up, glaring at Portals. She looked pissed. Good, that was what Bakugo wanted.
He got in position, "You afraid or somethin'?"
She kept staring at him, "Why does everything have to end in a fight with you?"
"SHUT UP AND THROW A PUNCH ALRE—"
Bakugo didn't finish the sentence. Kija's fist smashed into his face, his teeth knocked into each other and the taste of blood stained his mouth. Bakugo's vision went blurry, and he caught himself before his head hit the ground. He looked up at Kija, squinting in the harsh sun.
