A/N:  you'll see who's 'on the run'. Sorry update was a bit slow, my updating is going to get weird with school starting up again. Hope you're all staying safe!

"Vortex!" Noir, an underground pro hero called for her student. She'd employed Kija as apart of the UA work study program, and the girl had stayed on ever since her first year. This was the last time Kija would be working with her until after the sports festival, but Noir was often times handed investigation like cases to resolve.

Her current one wasn't all that great.

"Yeah?" Kija asked as Noir tossed a folder on Kija's part time desk, a few of its contents slid out.

"You know the Hero Killer case we've been working on?" Noir started raiding the pencil holder for a pen as Kija grimaced. The woman's complete black costume and overcoat felt right at home in the office's seldom décor. Even her mask with it's white eye-holes looked stressed right now.

She remembered the case as a murderer that was going around killing heroes, quite successfully, sadly. Those he hadn't killed but encountered had all received injuries that crippled them so bad there was little chance of them ever returning to the field.

Because of the current timing with the school year, Kija didn't have much of an ability to work with Noir. UA's policy being waiting until after the sports festival to let the third years really pick their work-studies up again. Though, it'd gotten looser for the already established agencies with a good track record.

Which let Noir take Kija onto the Hero Killer case.

"Yeah, what about it? Did he make another move?" Kija asked.

"No!" The pro opened the folder for her intern, "Look at these patterns, the Hero Killer, well, now they're calling him Stain. Anyway, Stain's patterns are normally killing or injuring around seven-ish heroes before moving onto another city to make us lose track of him. But look here," She pointed at the longest times in between his sightings, "The longest times he doesn't make a move is around three weeks. That's when he leaves one city and appears in another one. And he—"

"Hasn't made a move for two weeks." Kija finished.

Noir snapped her fingers. "Bingo."

"So, he's moved again, or in the middle of it."

Noir nodded, "The last pro he hit was the seventh of that city, only injuries for that one, but several of his hits on the others were fatal."

Kija clenched her fist, "And I'm assuming there was no trail again?"

Noir took her fedora off and ran her hand through her inky black hair, "Nada. Every time he hits, they don't find the person until he's already gone, I've never been able to get to the city fast enough to pick anything up. The spots always picked clean." She collapsed in the chair across from Kija's desk, "Every day I don't find this guy is another day he's able to keep killing people."

"Noir..." Kija reached out and stroked the underground hero's arm, not really knowing what to say.

Noir sighed, "Based on the patterns, he never appears in a city more than one over." She sat up, "We'll alert all surrounding cities. Put their police on high alert and request the agencies around the back alleys he likes to hang around in to be extra weary. We'll also have to alert all hero agencies overall; we could request some of the bigger name ones to help. But that might only draw his attention..."

The pro let her words fall off, retreating into her own head. Kija sat here for a second, then rifled through the rest of the folder. Victims, addresses, the scarce two pictures they'd managed to get of him, the heroes he attacked, descriptions of his fighting styles and appearance from those that had come back alive.
