"Really? Noir's letting you off for that long?"
Kija grimaced, "You don't have to make it sound like I'm some delinquent she needs to babysit."
Aizawa offered no apology and turned back to his desk, "I'll ask Nezu about you coming. I doubt he'll object."
"And if—" Aizawa shot her a look and Kija corrected herself, "—when he approves it, will I just be extra security, or do you want me to actually help teach?" Please, please don't say she had to teach, the training camp was a power grind and the most you could do was tell someone to keep drinking water.
Aizawa shook his head, "No, you shouldn't have to. Since it's not technique based there's little you could advise them on."
Perfect.
"Make sure you bring everything you need. We can't have you teleporting in and out of the area," Aizawa warned.
Kija nodded, "Right, thanks." She bowed her head and quickly left the teachers office, waving to Present Mic as she went.
Would he be at the training camp? UA always needed more help for the training camps, the two homeroom teachers wouldn't be enough. They'd reached out to non-faculty in past years. But that might've gotten shut down with the extra security measures.
Kija sighed, she could ask Aizawa later. She didn't feel like walking all the way back to the teachers' lounge when she was almost to the cafeteria.
Slipping in a bit late, Kija found her friends and sat down, listening to Nejire talk while she unwrapped her lunch.
Nejire bounced up and down in her chair, "So can you go? Will you still be teaching the first-years? Do you have to stay the whole week?"
Kija unwrapped her lunch, "Aizawa has to ask Nezu, but he seemed confidant I could go." She popped the first dumpling into her mouth. "No, I'm just there for security. And," Kija pushed Nejire's nose. "Yes, the whole week."
"Don't get spooked on your patrols," Togata grinned, "Or else the ghosts are going To-get-a you!"
"Using your own name is cheating," Kija said. She looked across the table at Amajiki, who sat opposite her today. He gave her a small smile and Kija refused to let the butterflies—most likely the type he texted her a picture of last night when he was taking care of his butterfly garden because of course he had one—take over her stomach.
Kija calmly ate a bite of her rice instead.
"Hey! So about our festival trip this year!"
Kija kicked Nejire under the table. Drat, she had a plan no doubt.
Togata beamed, "Yeah I almost forgot about that. We're still doing the early one, right?"
"If any of us want to make it," Amajiki said. He shuddered, "At least it'll be less crowded than the ones here, since the town is so much smaller."
Kija tried to keep her cool while Nejire and Togata bounced around dozens of thoughts about it. Between what food there'll be, to the music, and how big the fireworks would be. Amajiki only said a few words, while Kija remained completely silent.
It wasn't that Kija didn't like summer festivals, far from it. Nejire had dragged her along to one every year since they met and Kija had loved every second of it. When they got to UA and Togata and Amajiki slowly became their staple friend group, they'd invited them to come. And thus, the tradition was born.
But this year they were all so busy with work-studies, and now that Kija was going to the first-years training camp, none of the big festivals were even an option. They'd lucked out that the smaller one was happening in a nearby town.
