"And that's the forty-second spot taken! All the passes have been claimed we have our contenders!" The giant screens around the stadium displayed the 42 students moving on to the second round ranked in order. Kija spotted her name in eleventh, and she let herself feel proud of where she'd placed.

Kija glanced at Nejire, who'd been bouncing on her heels since she'd come out of the first round. Nejire had gotten twenty-third place.

Of course, Kija had been able to watch the rest of the fights from the viewing platform. She hoped Nejire wasn't too tired, from using her Quirk so much, but there'd been no signs of extreme fatigue yet.

Nejire tapped Kija on the shoulder as the announcer replayed some of the fights and the arena changed back to normal, "Hey, hey! What do you think we'll be doing next?"

Kija shrugged, "Team event probably. I hope we get to choose who we're with." All the people that'd passed the first round walked down on the field. The two girls followed and kept talking.

Nejire nodded, "Yeah, we used to have no idea what would happen but look at us now!" She grinned. Kija nodded along, they'd been nervous beyond measure their first year, but now almost every student could predict what UA would throw at them.

"Time for the second event!" The students looked to where Nezu had appeared again, another smile on his face. "You all have passed the first challenge, but don't get too comfortable, you still have a mighty fine obstacle to overcome." He ushered his paw to the screen, "See what we've got in store for you next!"

The students watched as the screen spun the options, the crowd's cheers hyping up in anticipation. A sound effect triggered, and the screen stopped on Team Flag Tag.

Nezu threw his arms open wide, "Team Flag Tag! The goal is simple, your team—consisting of two people—must collect the flags of other contestants. Each student will be given a belt with three flags on it, you must capture flags from other teams. Oh, and it doesn't matter how many flags you have individually, your team's total flags will determine whether you move on or not."

Kija and Nejire made eye contact, then smiled at each other.

"And we'll be assigning your teams!"

Their faces fell.

A giant list was displayed on the monitor. A collective gasp went up from the students, and the audience only ate up the plot twist.

"Only the top eight teams will advance, you have ten minutes to find your partner and prepare. Good luck!" Nezu smiled at the third years as Kija frowned and Nejire pouted.

Their chances of getting paired up were extremely low, so they'd probably end up with someone they barely knew. It really was a simulation of what it was like to be a hero. Getting paired up on the spot with someone and having to cope with it.

Kija scanned the list for her name, finally finding it smack dab in the middle. She was teamed up with Ria Tamako. Kija felt pleasantly surprised, Ria was her class rep and pretty good at combat. She had light blue hair that was always pulled back into a ponytail and freckles that actually glittered. Only when she was excited though, but still. It was something Aoyama might be jealous of.

Nejire tapped Kija on the shoulder, "Who'd you get, huh? Is it someone from your class? Do you know the—"

"I got Ria-san, I know her alright. How 'bout you?" Kija asked.

Nejire beamed at her, "I got one of my classmates."

Kija nodded, "Good. Well, see you. And no hard feelings?"

"No hard feelings," Nejire repeated.

The two separated to go find their partners. Kija quickly found Ria, who openly admitted how happy she was to have Kija as her teammate. Since, teleporting Quirk and all.
