Opening my eyes, I couldn't see a thing. It was pitch black but that was due to a bag over my head. My hands were tied together as were my feet, though they were attached to the chair. Able to move my hands, I tugged at the bag until it was off. Once it was off, it was still dark but I could see the outlines of objects. And people.
There were about ten or so crew members, all of them staring at me as if I was some sort of creature. No one said anything, only confused glances were sent to each other, making it all terribly awkward and angering me further.
"What is going on!? Release me at once!" I demanded.
"Your majesty, we have important news." One said. He stepped forward, holding a lantern and setting it on a nearby barrel. I could see all their faces more clearly now, all looked scared.
"What do you want with me? And if you have something to tell me, just tell me! There is no need to tie me up."
"He said that you would put up a fight."
"Who is 'he'?"
"Tomorrow we will all be free, even you." They ignored my question."But everyone must play their part."
Another man strode forward. He was taller and bulkier than the others."Tomorrow at dawn, that will be our chance. The captain is out till late tonight, he won't have enough energy to fight back."
Even though I knew I was probably going to be ignored, I spoke anyway."Dorian? What has he got to do with this?"
The man went on."He doesn't travel with many men. His guards will be easy to take out."
"And then we will take the ship and be free!" Someone at the back exclaimed, causing a cheer to erupt from the men.
"QUIET! Someone tell me what is going on!" I shouted.
Several men shushed me."He was right when he said she was loud." The men all chatted amongst each other. I only heard parts of their conversation.
"Well he also said that she would help, with a little persuasion."
"But what if she tells on us? He said that she loved the captain and that causes problems."
Their talk went on, and I think some of them forgot I was even there, that was until I shouted again. Some of them looked fed up with me by now.
The man with the lantern spoke."Please your majesty, you must be quiet."
"No mate, she has a reason to be like this. Dorian probably rejected her when he saw her with her legs open on their bed." I recognised the voice and rude comment (which I ignored; and this was the second or third time he had mentioned me opening my legs to Dorian).
"Jack! Thank God you're ok. Now untie me and explain." I sighed with happiness.
"I can explain, but I'm not going to untie you. I know you too well." He stated, standing in front of me; surprisingly, it was quite intimating."Scarlett, I know how m!much you are 'in love' with that shitty captain but you know that he's a monster. Locking you into that room time and time again, shooting you in the leg with a dagger along with many other terrible things that a husband shouldn't do. Now you can't deny that he is a bad person."
It was silent as everyone waited for my answer. Hesitating, I nodded, unable to form any words.
"Exactly," he carried on,"and these men agree. Though, let me ask you something. Do these men look like those in that village of Dorian's?"
Now that I looked closer at them, it was true. They all looked like genuine pirates, wearing clothes that would only exist somewhere with civilisation. Thet definitely weren't part of any tribe though if you asked them, they would probably reply with the name of their nearest tavern, thinking it was funny.
"So, how did you all get here?" I asked slowly.
"They were kidnapped. Each man is from a different town, none are from the same."
"What would Dorian want with all of you?"
"If they ever made port in their towns, they would be used to get into it without trouble. And these men didn't have any family, so no one would go after them. Dorian is trying to get somewhere, get something but we don't know what."
"Don't look at me, I have no clue."
The bulky man drew his sword, pointing it to my neck."She's lying!"
Keeping still, I angrily spat."Put the fucking sword down."He hesitated."Now!" He did as he was told."And 'she' has a name you know."
"As I was saying," Jack broke the staring between me and the man,"you're coming with us. You know that you must escape before this life takes you over completely. It won't always be happy days Scarlett, there will be many dark ones. What we need to know is, are you going to help us?"
Thinking his through very carefully, I started to see that they were right. Though I felt happy here, was I really? As I went through it all, I realised that I was only there because I felt safe and someone was giving me attention, they were giving me their love. Dorian had made me feel that way because no one else had. Well, one person had, but they never acted on it. That was why I always forgave Dorian, I needed that love, I craved it.
Dorian was a danger. They called him names, they called him the devil! Wasn't that saying something? Shouldn't that have set off major alarms off in my head? But being head over heels in love had blinded me of all of this. No longer was I going to love that man, he could piss off for all I cared. Scarlett Pearl (not Scarlett Seas) was the most talked about female pirate; she was strong, independent, clever and above all, able to look after herself. She was not some naïve, vulnerable little girl. Scarlett Pearl was a woman.
Realising that they were all still waiting for an answer, I sat up as much as I could.
"I'm in."
