Fifty-eight

"I'm sorry."

And that two word that Krislene uttered broke his heart and made his world literally stop. He felt his heart crumbled into pieces. His breathing stopped and his body went cold.

"But... why Lene? Ayaw mo ba sa akin? May h-hindi ka ba nagustuhan na p-pinagawa ko sayo? Dahil ba inutusan k-kita? T-Tell me Lene, p-please. I'll fix it. Just don't... d-don't do this to me." Dylan stuttered because his body is literally shaking. He's afraid. Really-really afraid that Krislene already fell out of love of him.

"D-Did I do something wrong?"

"Dylan—"

"Did you... already had a change of heart?"

"Wait Dylan—"

"H-Hindi mo na ba ako ma—"

At bago pa matapos ni Dylan ang sasabihin nya, agad na sinapo ni Krislene ang magkabilang pisngi nito at hinalikan ng mariin sa labi. She felt really bad when she felt his lips trembling.

Natakot ko yata ng husto ang Dylan ko.

Slowly, she pulled away and she was suprised upon seeing Dylan's eyes welling up with tears. And it really broke her heart seeing her King so vulnerable like this.

"Lene..."

"Dylan ko, can I explain first?"

Dylan didn't answer and just looked at her but he looks really worried. So for him to be at ease, she started explaining what she meant by what she said earlier.

"Dylan, masyado kitang mahal para mag-isip ka ng kung anu-ano. I didn't even had a change of heart. Lalo pa ngayon na nalaman kong ikaw ang childhood sweetheart ko? Do you think I'll just let you go like that? No! You're mine alone my King. Always remember that."

"B-But why did you declined my proposal?" Dylan asked in confusion.

"I'm not declining it Dylan."

At mas lalong nakita ni Krislene ang kaguluhan sa mga mata ni Dylan kaya't minabuti nyang ipaliwanag ito nang walang labis at walang kulang.

"Okay. I admit. I was wrong with what I said first. It should be 'yes I will marry you but not now my King'. And that's where 'I'm sorry' should follow next."

At bago sya muling magsalita, hinalikan nya ng mariin si Dylan sa labi nito. "I want to spend forever and eternity with you Dylan. Alam mo 'yan. But I want to apologize because I have a favor to ask. And that is, can we stay engaged until Ate K finally gets to be with her happiness? Gusto ko kasing sya ang maunang ikasal sa aming dalawa. And I promise you, once she's settled, let's get wed soon. Okay ba 'yon?"

And that's the time Dylan blew a loud breath and squeezed his eyes shut. Tears came running down his face and Krislene immediately wiped it all away, "I'm sorry if you misunderstood my King. Mali ako do'n."

"I got so afraid Lene. Akala ko ayaw mo na sa akin."

"Of course not! Never! Dylan makikipag-patayan ako kapag may umagaw sayong iba sa akin. Ganoon kita kamahal tandaan mo 'yan."

Dylan once again looked at her, "Since then and now, your love for your Sister is much more heavier than your love for me."

Krislene chuckled, "Hindi naman sa gano'n Dylan ko. She's my Sister so I love her. But you're my King so I love you more. It's just that, my Sister still needs you."

"Huh?"

"Dylan, baka nakakalimutan mo, I'm also possessive. Sa ngayon, hahayaan kita na gawin ang responsibilidad mo bilang best friend kay Ate K dahil kapag naging mag-asawa na tayo, keep my word Dylan, pero ipagdadamot kita sa Ate ko. There will always be a limit as to what you can give to my Sister weather it's an effort or time. Sa ngayon, habang hinihintay ni Ate K na bumalik ang happiness nya, be there for her as her best friend. And of course, I'll be there for her too, the both of us this time. Dahil babakuran kita Dylan. Ngayon pang nag-propose ka na sa akin."
