Callan invited me to a picnic that Valencia is holding this weekend. He said I can invite Giselle as well. Arriving at the baseball center, I meet Ivy.

"Hi sweetiepie. Are you okay," she ask's.

When I informed Ivy about the food poisoning, she gave me 3 days off. Now I'm fine and I'm back for work. I nod my head in response to her question when Giselle rushes forward to give me a hug.

"I missed you. How did you get food poisoning?" She ask's.

"I don't know. I may have eaten something expired," I respond.

"Oh Kash. I've always told you to chill down on your intake of food. Now look at this, you almost killed yourself," she jests.

"You didn't come to see me," I say.

"Sorry okay. Ivy wouldn't give me a day off," she explains.

"It's okay," I assure.

Throughout the day, I do my job. Ivy asked for Carl because he is no where to be found so I take it upon myself to find him. I walk into the male restroom and find Carl speaking to himself in the mirror.

"Ever since the day I met you, I've had feelings for you. Your smile is brighter than the stars..." He says. "No no. That sounds desperate," he changes his mind.

"Hi. Giselle, I like you-" he recites again but I cut him off.

"Carl.. What are you doing?" I question.

His head whips to the side to look at me.

"I'm just practicing on how I'll confess my feelings to Giselle," he responds.

I shake my head subtly.

"Ivy has been looking for you. She needs you," I enlighten him.

"Have any idea why?" He ask's as he steps towards me.

"No idea," I respond.

Days go by in a flash and it's now Saturday, the day of the picnic. Andreas and his girlfriend are in attendance. Valencia is dressed in a plain white figure hugging dress. I'm wearing my usual floral summer dress, except this time, I have a wig on.

I had a bad hair day and couldn't spend countless of hours trying to fix my hair. As an alternative, I decided to wear a wig.

The expanse of the park has green grass and is surrounded by trees. Andreas and the others are getting everything ready on the large picnic mat. I espy Callan and Valencia having a conversation by the tree. A pang of jealousy hits me.

Giselle makes her way up the hill with her puppy, a Yorkshire Terrier in a leash.

When she arrives she says, "I hope I'm not late".

"Not at all, you're just on time". I kneel down to pat the puppy. "Aww, he is so cute".

Suddenly, a strong wind blows the wig off of my head. Giselle's mouth widens as I get up and catch sight of the wig flying with the gale towards Valencia and Callan before settling at his feet. Embarrassment grips me when Callan notices and Valencia gives a sly chuckle.

He bends down to pick it up. I slowly walk towards him to take it and he hands it over to me when Valencia throws in a snarky remark.

"Callan, you're better than this. You should be with someone whose hair doesn't fly off," she comments but Callan's silence takes me aback.

Seriously!? He is just going to let her talk that way about me.

"Now, listen here you scrawny looking bitch. I don't know who you think you are but I'm not the one to mess with, I'll fucking hurt you," I admonish.

"Kashmere..." Callan says.

"Aww, did I get mammy mad?" She retorts.

What the fuck.

"Callan, did you hear that!?" I ask

"Kashmere leave it," he advises.

"No Callan, you can't tell me to leave it. She started it and she literally just called me mammy," I say.

Callan rubs his face with his hands.

Fuck him.

I turn around and walk away, leaving the picnic. Callan follows after me trying to stop me but I don't.

"Kashmere, please listen to me". He reaches after me and yanks my arm, making me face him.

"Why should I? You literally just let her disrespect me. You never said anything when she said something racist. You're black too, how could you let her say something like that and embarrass me?" I question him with tears in my eyes.

He pinches the bridge of his nose. "Im sorry on behalf of her," he apologizes.

"Fuck you Callan. Why the hell are you even around her!? I thought the both of you broke up," I say.

"We did. But like I said, it's only friendship," he assures.

"Well you're too close to her to be friends," I retort.

"What do you want me to do?" He raises his voice. "I'm doing this for my father. Im trying to secure a bond with Valencia so that our parents can finalize their business deal".

"See you later, Callan" I say as I turn around.

"Wait, you're just leaving the picnic?" He ask's.

"Yea, I need to rest. I already feel so tired," I respond.

Honestly, Im demoralized. I'd rather be alone at home than to be here. I can't stand Valencia.
