I'm sorry it scared you
With my simple words,
I just wanted to share
Some love in a verse.
If I could act on a whim,
I would simply reach out.
Lean in 'cross the desert,
And kiss your head or your mouth.
Then quickly return
To my own doings,
For I briefly thought of you
In the midst of my rumings.
Some song came on
I thought you might like,
Or some idea illuminated
That you might also find light.
Some sound was uttered
That might bring you mirth,
Or some phrase was sentenced
That might break ground in your earth.
I don't really need you,
But I like sharing our notes.
This life is, too, mine,
And I like sharing its tones.
While my line is busy,
I simply reach out,
With loving meaning,
"I miss you, be well."
I dialed this kiss
Made true by a wish,
That if you were with me
I'd greet you with bliss.
And it's with loving knowledge,
I sent through the mist.
In case you've forgotten,
A strange err could be missed.
So I send simple words
While you aren't by my side,
When I have chances to share
That your life's valued like mine.
I didn't need you sooner,
Though you're always welcome.
I didn't feel like a lost loser
Without your present direction.
I simply missed you,
And moved on with my day.
And sent you these words,
So you'd feel my want far away.
But want is a want,
And need is a need.
And lives spent apart,
Let simple needs be.
So I sent to you,
My luxurious creature,
My want and my love
While I sleep in my ether.
And maybe one day,
You'll mix up the two.
Both want me and need me,
And not know what to do.
And push me away
Across a divide,
But hold my hand close
Afraid to fall in and die.
And I'll utter, "I'll miss you,
If you decide to let go."
And hold just as tight
To your hand til you know.
But these words do scare you-
Now, maybe then,
And maybe forever
Til these words reach their end.
Maybe for others,
Once uttered, forgotten.
But with me they remain
Like empty lungs in filled coffins.
So I'll move on and live,
Like the breath in between
Each word to be uttered
To my next loving being.
And so you shall live,
As if missing is frightening;
And ignore the true weight.
Misdirection is lightening.
Maybe the truth is
You felt undeserving,
And sent your undoing
To spare me of the burden.
Of our lines growing shorter,
And your voice growing thin;
Or your voice crackling out,
Or the replies you might miss.
Know I fear not,
To reach out again.
To take up the line,
And redial instead.
Know I'm aware
Of miscommunications,
Of sorely spoken selves,
Whether or not you can claim them.
Know this for certain,
Even if it's been missed,
That I'll love you through it all.
And that's my call,
I promise.
