The journey to Polis was quiet and Athena shook with nerves. Adriel is safe, she repeated over and over in her head, hoping all the doubts would disappear.
Walking through the gates of Polish made a shiver run down her spine. Shrill screams echoed and guards held guns in their hands. The place was an entire wreck.
There was a woman chained to a cross, leaving Athena's eyes wide open in shock. Along the fence, more crosses stood with bloody people chained to them.
"About what I expected." Pike muttered.
The grounder holding his chains tugged him forward. "Shut your mouth."
Kane took long and fast strides to the grounder leading them and began conversing with them urgently. Athena kept to herself and looked around the place with disgust clearly painted on her face. There was fresh blood on the ground and Polis looked like what she imagined an outdoor prison.
Athena raised an eyebrow at the large group of people who had their heads bowed and rested on their knees. It looked like there were in some kind of cult, group prayer.
Jackson suddenly rose from the group and Athena walked to stand next to her father who was completely weapon-less.
"Chancellors. And daughter." He greeted them. Athena lifted her jaw slightly and tried studying him. He was acting strange. His walk was calm and he seemed entirely okay with stepping across the puddles of blood.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Pike asked.
Jackson smirked, "those aren't necessary." He looked down at the chains attached to Pikes hands.
The ground tightened his grip, "this man belongs to the commander."
Athena turned and followed the man's gaze. In the shadows she could see three figures make their way out. Jaha was the first one, then Ontari being followed with her gaurd.
"Athena, it's good to see another natblida." Ontari smirked. "Come to claim your throne?"
Athena clenched her jaw, "no."
Ontari hummed, "release him." The grounder almost immediately turned around and removed the chains from Pike. "Now open your mouth and accept the key." She held an almost clear disk in her hand and held it up to the man. The grounder removed his mask and let her place the disk into his mouth before swallowing.
"Thelonious, what is this?" Kane asked quietly.
"This is the chip." Pike replied as Athena scrunched her eyebrows and watched Ontari pass more of them around to the rest of the grounders.
"I though you were crazy, now I know you are." Kane muttered.
Jaha smiled and sighed, "this is unity. Like you always wanted."
Athena could see the unchained man glance down at Ontari's dagger that was held to her hip. "Pike, no." Athena stepped forward but it was already too late. Pike had already grabbed Ontari from behind and held her dagger to her throat.
"Everyone back away or the commander dies!"
A few guards from Skaikru came marching forward and Pike slightly relaxed. "Thank god. Briggs, Grant, get behind me."
Grant, the brunette man suddenly hit Pikes leg with the butt of his gun. The blonde man, Briggs held Pikes arm tightly and the man was restrained once again.
Jaha walked up to Pike. "Join us, Charles, please. There's no more need for fighting." A small disk laid in the palm of his hand.
"We both know there's no way in hell I'm taking that thing."
