After most of skaikru and Trikru had been ordered to be chained in the dungeon, it wasn't long until the two leaders were requested in the throne room. Before the guards could come in, Octavia lightly shoved the "meditating" blonde with her leg.
Athena snapped out of the dark room she had been in and carefully watched as six azgedan soldier marched into the room with Echo behind them.
"Wanheda, Fayaheda, on your feet." They ordered.
Clarke quickly stood up and allowed the soldiers to remove her chains from the bars, whereas Athena glared up at the soldier who stood in front of her.
"Hey! I need to see Roan!" Clarke demanded.
The soldier harshly grasped her arm and pulled her up. A cloth was harshly throw over their heads and skaikru shouted in protest.
Athena knew this was just Echo being extra so she stayed calm and allowed the guards to drag her out the room while Clarke thrashed around.
Although she couldn't see a thing, Athena had memorized the steps to the throne room and knew she was standing in front of the doors. Clarke had gone first, per Echos request.
She wanted to see Clarke die first.
She waited for a while, only listening to the harsh breaths of the guards that stood beside her. Her heart was hammering in her chest. If Roan were to kill her right now, they'd burn her body because of the title.
The Flame would be gone.
The doors were opened and Clarke was calmer this time. They hadn't killed her. She could hear her cuffs clank as she walked down the halls, farther away from Athena.
Today was not the day they would die.
Athena was led inside and the cloth was yanked off her head. The bright light blinded her for a moment and she almost laughed at the sight of Roan with his own azgedan crown.
"Fayaheda, as requested." Echo stated from beside Athena. "Shall I summon the war chiefs?"
"No." Roan replied while maintaining a blank stare. "Release her."
"Sire- I don't think-"
"Remove her chains." He commanded harshly.
Echo harshly released a breath and removed the metal cuffs from her wrists. "Get out."Echo took one last glance at Athena before turning around and storming out the room with the guards behind her.
The doors closed and Athena met his gaze, "well she's fun."
Roan shrugged and stood up slowly, his hand grasping the wound at his chest. He walked over the table at the side of the room and picked up an object hidden inside the fur of a black bear. "Anagosta had me promise I would take care of you."
Curiously, her head turned and watched his every move. "The Flame is in your head." His gaze met hers. "Yet you haven't claimed your throne officially. Why is that?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." She maintained a blank look and showed no emotion.
"kill him" the voice deep within her head whispered and she squinted her eyes, wondering why they were talking to her right now.
"Don't lie." He seethed. "Clarke told me everything." He walked closer, "you don't claim your throne because you know they will never accept you."
She ignored his statement and glanced down at the fur in his hands, "what is that?"
"A token of protection."
"A token of protection?" A laugh escaped her throat. "Your own people hate you. What makes you think your word will protect me against them. Lexa could barely do it, let alone you."
"If Anagosta wants you alive, then you will be kept alive... no matter the consequences." He uncovered the fur and her eyes flickered down to see a thin crown similar to his. "Show then you are strong. Show them you a ruthless. Show them that you will do anything for them, and they will accept you as their queen and commander."
She stared down at the crown made of bones that were carved into looking like vines. "And if I say no?"
"Your war chief dies." Her eyes quickly glanced up in alarm and she noticed the dark look that now adorned his face. "You're the commander of fire. You're the symbol of death and life. Not even Wanheda compares to you."
"You will let my people go."
"Skaikru will no longer be bothered." He replied.
"Not them." He stared back confused. "You will Trikru go back home and rest."
He stayed quiet for a while, weighing his options before quietly sighing, "a king does what his queen requests."
Everyone had gathered at the heart and center of Polis. Kids stayed close to their mothers and warriors stood near each other. Even the prisoners were brought out; chained together in a line.
Roan stood on top of the platform where his mother had been killed. His crown was in his head and cloak on his shoulders.
Athena sat behind him to the side as a sign that the Azgedan king had conquered the fire. There was a thin crown of red leaves over her dirty blonde hair. Her face was bare yet the symbol of the commander was seen clearly between her eyebrows.
"My people!" He spoke loud and clear, gaining the attention of everyone. "We have all come here to see the great Commander of Fire die today." Azgeda cheered whilst Trikru and Skaikru stayed awfully quiet. "But I assure you, no one will die again after today."
"She stole the flame! Kill her!" Someone from the crowd shouted and everyone dispersed into a series of arguments.
"The commanders have already united themselves with her. She has been chosen by them. By Lexa kom Trikru and the first commander." Roan stated and allowed his gaze to meet hers for a second before looking back at the crowd. "Azgeda will recognize and defend the coalition created by Lexa kom Trikru and allow all of us to live in peace again... along with Skaikru as the thirteenth clan."
Clarke's eyes visibly widened and she stared up at Athena. But the older blondes eyes were not looking at anything.
"You can kill him. He's distracted."
Her eyes blinked slowly, unaware of the old commander trying to gain control. But that's when her eyes met his and she was thrown back into flaming world.
Adriels eyes were worried. He stood beside the chained up warriors, a hand behind Indra to keep her upright.
"Kill him now and let everyone see how ruthless you truly are."
"A symbol of death and life has been crowned under Azgeda and will allow us to live in peace." He stated and everyone watched as he took a small knife from Echo and began carving intricate symbols on Athena's temples.
Throughout the pain, Athena kept her eyes glued on Adriel who watched with anger. His eyes were flames and there was no doubt in her mind that he was thinking of a million ways to kill Roan.
"Athena Kane kom Trikru has accepted the role as your queen and commander." He spoke loudly and retrieved the crown from Echo. "Any attack against her, is an attack against us." He slowly placed it on her head.
Roan moved to stand beside her, allowing everyone to see the symbols that will scar her face forever. Her eyes moved away from Adriel and watched the shocked looks of Trikru and Azgeda. They could see the black blood dripping down her cheeks and down her throat. The crown looked evil on her and for the first time in their lives, they all knew no good was going to come.
Their world would be covered in flames soon enough.
