The silver knife in her hand was so shiny, it reflected her face. Her dirty blonde hair, hollow cheekbones, and her hazel eyes that held so much boredness. It was a skinny piece of metal, but not that skinny to where it could be bent. It was the size of her hand and lightweight.

Athena took the knife and held it between her thumb and the side of her pointer finger. She stood up straight and relaxed her body, making sure that her shoulders were calm and her hands were loose.

She put her right foot forward and her left slightly behind her right. She looked at the wooden board hung up in her tiny cell. After a few months of being here she got tired and bored. Her father was only allowed to visit once every two months, and her mother was never allowed, but that never stopped her from giving Marcus gifts to her. Her mom had sent her books: Red Queen, The Iliad, The Mark of Athena, Artemis, and so much more. She'd always read them in a day or two.

Other than reading and staring out the window that showed her the stars and moon, she would exercise. She never had something to do in her cell so why not try to get her dream body. But other times she would lay down on the cold floor and just stare at the window, dreaming that maybe one day, she would be able to feel the grass beneath her fingers, the heat of a fire, the coldness of the rain, and the edges of bark.

Next, she gripped the knife with the blade facing away from her. She brought her hand back and threw the knife softly, but hard enough to hit the side of the red circle in the middle.

"Stupid dumb knife," she says with a scowl, slightly disappointed with the fact that it didn't exactly hit the middle.

She walked a few steps to her target and took the knife out. Once she was back into position she brought her arm back—

The door suddenly opened with a loud sqeek and she turned around quickly hiding the knife behind her back.

Kane walks in holding a duffel bag and handing it to her. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Her father had visited her last month.

"Um... why are you here?" She asks confused

"Listen, you and 99 others are going to be sent down to the ground." He responded quickly, looking around her cell cautiously.

"Wait, but the earth needs 100 years. If they send us down we'll die." She says worriedly

"You do what it takes to survive." He responds, giving her the bag. "Promise me, promise you'll do what it takes."

"I- I promise." She managed to stutter out of shock

"I'm not supposed to be here, hurry up and change then follow the guards outside." Kane says and leaves, but not before giving his daughter a kiss on her forehead.
