One and a half years ago
Irene woke up and the first person she looked for was Lisa. Her eyes landed on the next bed where her best friend was lying with hospital apparatus connected to her body. She forced herself to get up and pulled a chair next to Lisa."Hey, I am already awake. Please wake up too. You have a lot of explaining to do. You can't just sleep there while you got me all confused because of your sudden confession. This is something serious and we need to discuss it. Why didn't you tell me this before? Why did you wait until we got into an accident? You should have been honest with me. I knew it, there's something bothering you. Did you think I will get mad? No, I am actually happy and I wanted to acknowledge your feelings with me. Now it made sense to me why I don't feel sad if Seulgi and I fight. Or if ever we break up. It's because all along our feelings for each other are not as strong as I thought it was. You are always there for me, Lis. You know I would never judge you if you're gay. I actually wanted you to be like that. I was really hoping one day you just turned gay and I would ask you to date me. This is the reason I am not comfortable with you working with Kim Jennie. I felt threatened she would turn you gay and choose her over me. Isn't it so absurd?" Irene looked at Lisa lovingly and caressed the latter's cheeks.
"Please just wake up and say something. I have never been this excited in my entire life. You must repeat your confession. I would love to hear it again, Lis."
The door opened and Seulgi came rushing to her girlfriend. She was obviously worried.
"Babe, are you alright? Sorry, my flight got delayed. I booked right away when your mom told me about the accident."
Irene didn't feel the butterflies on her stomach seeing Seulgi's concerned face. She felt that Seulgi just went home to do her job as her girlfriend. To check and act concerned. Or maybe Seulgi finally hit her head and realized her girlfriend's worth.
"I didn't know I have to be in an accident first for you to be here. Should I be fluttered?" Irene pointed out with a mock. She didn't want Seulgi to be around. Maybe if she went home sooner before the accident. Maybe Irene would be rejoicing seeing her again.
"Babe, please don't say that. You've got me really worried."
"Don't you see that I am still fine here and my best friend isn't? You don't have to worry about me."
Seulgi just realized that Lisa was also in the room. "Sorry, what's her situation?" She was oblivious that her presence wasn't appreciated.
"I have no idea, I just woke up. The last thing I remembered, Lisa did everything to protect me. I could have got more injuries if she didn't use her whole body to cover me."
"She's a strong woman. Lisa will wake up soon, Babe." Seulgi assured.
"Can you please leave us alone for a while? I want to take some rest. Also, I know you are tired from the long flight."
"Sure, Babe. I'll come back and see you tomorrow first thing in the morning." Seulgi kissed Irene's forehead and left her alone as she requested.
Irene looked at Lisa feeling guilty. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't let her kiss me in front of you knowing you might get hurt. Please just wake up, Lis. I can't wait to talk this out with you."
Irene and Seulgi grew apart because the former always finds an excuse not to meet her girlfriend until Seulgi had enough and went back abroad.
She couldn't leave Lisa's side. She promised to wait until she wakes up. Seulgi was becoming impatient with her and asked her to make a choice. She wanted to get married regardless Irene requested to postpone the wedding a bit while they wait for Lisa to be conscious.
