Chapter 29

IRENE

I woke up with a smile on my face but the bed was already empty. I thought maybe Lisa was just preparing for our breakfast. It's expected with her thoughtful character. It didn't just happen once. She would usually get up early to prepare for our breakfast but I just missed her already. I rose to get a quick shower. I was done with my morning routine when I went to the kitchen and there was a breakfast prepared for me but still no Lisa around. There was a note on the table.

"Sorry, I have to be up early to clear my head. I love you, Baby! Don't skip your meal before going to work. (",) "

My heart sank instantly. It felt like those were just empty words. She would say she loves me all the time but where is she? How could she be acting all that after we made love all night? I was expecting to at least get a morning cuddle with her. My legs were still wobbly after multiple orgasms. Was everything we did a temporary escape for her? What did she mean to clear up her head? Am I not a good distraction for her so she would forget whatever is bothering her? She usually goes to work by 9 am so how early did she go out? I groaned in disappointment and munched the French toast my girlfriend prepared for me. I checked my watch and I still have some time for myself. I went to open my laptop and review the CCTV footage. After the incident in Lisa's unit, I made sure to invest in our security system. I was looking for the video of yesterday when Lisa arrived home. I paid attention to the video and saw Lisa enter our place with an envelope in her hand. She flopped on the couch as she was opening the envelope. Everything seemed normal except Lisa almost jumped out from the couch as she pulled the photo from the envelope. She was staring at the photo full of terror. She closed her eyes and covered her face. She was trying to hide from it.  I was certain that She was scared of something but I couldn't point it out. I watched her gather some courage and looked at the photo again. She was in that state for several minutes until I arrived. I sighed and downloaded a copy of the shortened video. "What is she hiding from me?"
I dialed Somi's number and thankfully picked up immediately.

"Unnie?"

"What went wrong in Thailand?" I cut around the bush.

"Huh?" Somi didn't understand my question.

"Lisa came back after 2 weeks and clearly something happened there, Somi. You have to tell me what's going on." I could tell by the sounds of her that she had some hesitations.

"Unnie, sorry but she said not to tell you anything that would worry you."

"Was she really there to work? If so why couldn't she even reach out to us and inform us what she was doing there? Look, Somi even though she's back we still need to know what happened in Thailand. She's been acting up."

"Believe me Unnie, I also had no idea she was going to Thailand for any work related. We were both at the firm and she would normally give me a heads up. My father just told me she was sent by our grandpa there.'

"You have to tell me everything you know so I can help your cousin. I will send you a video right now so you can go figure out if she needs help or not." I went over to the laptop and simply sent her a7 copy. "Open it and decide, Somi. I don't have all day."

Somi realized that I was right. She was also as clueless as me. I felt a bit guilty for accusing her. She didn't know something serious like that is going on with her cousin's life. "Unnie all I know is she went home with Ten. And he's gone. The news shocked everyone in the family but no one was talking about it. She never talks about what she did in Thailand and how did she find him. She refused to even attend Ten's funeral." Somi felt sad about their cousin.

"Why did you just tell me all that?"

"We were told not to fuss about Ten's death. I didn't know it would be an issue. Also, Lisa told me a couple of times that she was okay."
