A/N: Not your typical arranged marriage trope,, so give it a chance

For fuck's sake, it was the twenty-first century. Meaning, people had no business deciding on their children's engagement before said children ever knew what 'being engaged' meant.

It was all such a stupid concept. Parents tended to decide future spouses of their children by the time they turned three years old. In some cases, if the parents had a good relationship with another family with an appropriately aged child, their child's engagement might be fixed literally at the time of birth.

It was absolutely ridiculous. For one, how do you know that the child your child is 'engaged to' won't grow up to be a murderer? Even if you know the other party's parents, there's no guarantee that their upbringing might be successful; that the person turns out to be even half-decent.

Moreover, weren't people supposed to go out in the world, meet other people and then eventually find the one they wanted to marry? Maybe they didn't want to get married at all! How were they supposed to do either of that if their marriage had already been fixed before they were even conscious of their surroundings?!

Again, it was fucking stupid. But well, it was also a fairly common practice, even though the numbers of such cases were somewhat going down in the past decade.

In Yokohama University, life was as normal as it could get. The students lived freely and dated whoever they wanted, like they were supposed to. If anyone did have a partner they were already engaged to, they usually kept quiet about it. Arranged marriages were still stupid, after all; who'd want to be known for being engaged since birth?

But well, everything had certain strange exceptions, to say the least. In this particular case, the exception came to be this one peculiar couple. Both men, the two of them had a serious difference in their heights.

The taller one, Dazai Osamu, was mostly known for being an absolute genius in his academics. He had practically zero athletic ability, but other than that, he was absolutely gorgeous too. He had fluffy-looking brown hair, and he wore glasses which remained perfectly perched on the bridge of his nose. He also seemed to wear a lot of bandages on his body.

The shorter one, Nakahara Chuuya, was known for being the ace of the football team. He had a sports scholarship to the university, and even if his grades weren't that good, he could continue to be a student purely for his athletic merits. He was smart, and absolutely drop dead gorgeous. He had red hair and blue eyes; who wouldn't want to go out with him, right?

But, Chuuya himself made it very clear that nothing of that sort was likely to happen. Despite how much his personality absolutely crashed with Dazai's, in the third week of their first semester at this university, Chuuya all but announced to all his adoring fans (read: the student body) that he was already engaged to that 'shitty bastard, Dazai.'

During this declaration, not too surprisingly, Dazai was standing right behind Chuuya, using the latter's head as his arm rest. So, throughout the whole very important announcement, Chuuya kept trying to swat away his shitty partner's arms while he made his speech, while Dazai just listened to him with a very pleased look on his face.

But as expected, even after that, Chuuya was not be left alone by his fans. Even if he was constantly with Dazai. No really, those two might as well be practically joined at the hip. In their weak defence, Chuuya seemed to be very annoyed by Dazai. The two of them might be together all the time, but they constantly fought and never acted anything like a couple.

This led to everyone thinking that their engagement was purely a result of agreement between their parents, and that they still had a chance with Chuuya. Hence, there seemed to be no end to the sheer amount of confessions that Chuuya received day by day. While most were satisfied with giving him confession letters, some still preferred to do it in person.
