A/N: hi guys!! my wattpad hasn't been working for super long so i wasn't able to update this work that i posted on ao3 like in june,, but here u go!

With Chuuya, alcohol always comes with a louder than usual mouth, easier flowing insults, far more frequent nose scrunches and a whole lot of ranting and complaining about 'shitty luck to have ended with a partner like Dazai's who never did any of his paperwork on time and never tried to keep casualties to a minimum during missions'. Then, a very drunk Chuuya would make haste to add that this last tidbit about his partner was not as true as he made it seem; Dazai rarely killed people anymore unless necessary.

Dazai has had a lot of experience dealing with drunk Chuuya. It didn't matter that the two of them were nineteen and technically had a year before they could legally drink. They came from mafia background. Hell, they were the epitome of what it meant to be mafiosos. The infamous Double Black, the Most Feared Duo of Yokahama's Underworld. Their first sips of alcohol was probably the day they joined the mafia anyway.

That was four whole years ago, and Dazai had figured out on that very day that his chibi of a partner was an absolute lightweight who couldn't handle himself after one mere drink. Fortunately for Dazai, he had a good tolerance for spirits. Still, he really would have liked to not have to take care of a warm heap of a certain redhead in his arms, every time there was a Port Mafia party. In fact, Chuuya was drunk more outside of those parties. Mostly after missions, and obviously Dazai always ended up right next to him.

The point was, when Chuuya was drunk, he first got louder and complained non-stop and cursed Dazai out with all his five feet three inches might. He kicked and threw things, and sometimes he also ended up throwing up in the bathroom. Eventually, after tiring himself out like a little toddler, he finally passed out. Dazai could deal with that; he was used to it.

But today was different.

Today marked a special day for the two of them. It has been a year since Dazai defected from Port Mafia, leaving behind his life there and his position as one of the Mafia's Executives. He's been in hiding since then, waiting patiently till all his crimes got cleared before he could step back out into a whole different world; into the light.

Dazai didn't miss his life in the dark side. He didn't think he'd ever miss it. But, he did miss Chuuya. Even though he had protested tons when he'd first gotten partnered up with the little redhead shortie, he'd never not been fond of him. In an extremely unfortunate and in a way he'd never admit to anyone out loud, Dazai felt himself the most when he was with Chuuya. He felt human.

He had basically been ambushed by the hatrack on his way back to his safehouse one day. His former partner had insisted that he'd known where Dazai had been staying all along and obviously hadn't wanted anything to do with him. Naturally, Dazai had a question to retort with,

"Why'd you come then?"

For a good while, Chuuya had said nothing. Then, he had just scoffed, "I'm here to get compensation for my car that you blew up, of course. Fucking asshole."

Well, one thing led to another, and amidst their petty arguments and banter, they'd somehow decided on a day to meet up and hang out before they knew it. Chuuya had offered to bring drinks, and Dazai had agreed. In hindsight, that was probably where he should've known that this wasn't going to end well. Or normally, at the very least.

Well, obviously, the decided date happened to be today. As midnight had rolled around, Chuuya eventually showed up to the safehouse with a bottle of wine and a bottle of whiskey, insisting that he hadn't been followed and that 'he would never let something that stupid happen.'

Surprisingly, the two of them didn't talk. Sure, they hadn't been in contact at all for a whole year now, but even when they had met the other day, they had been able to talk to one another without feeling awkward. Dazai didn't think that the air between them could ever get this quiet, and awkward, for that matter. But it appeared that Chuuya was keeping quiet on purpose.
