Double Black

even if it's a false god

The sky seemed to be crumbling.

Breaking down, falling apart, colloidal wisps of clouds swirled around high above. Naturally, this was accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning. The sky appeared to be shrouded in metal black; a strange phenomenon, considering it was day time. The clouds were gathered right above a particular point, bustling dangerously.

Right below said clouds, the ground shook with uneven tremors. Trees swayed at periodic frequencies, the water in lakes rippled, and the once bare floors now developed sudden cracks running outwards from a single source.

A part, if not all, of Yokohama was thrown into utmost chaos and destruction.

And in middle of it all, at the centre of this newly created hell on Earth, stood a single person. Yokohama's most powerful ability user, the gravity manipulator, Nakahara Chuuya, code A5158. 

As expected, everyone involved in Yokohama's Underworld knew of this man. He was small, but it was no news that he could annihilate the whole city with a single flick of his finger any time he wanted to. He controlled gravity, after all. It couldn't be helped. Yokohama was just lucky he adored the city so much.

But well, things weren't looking very good right now.

Not many people knew about the true nature of Chuuya's ability. Sure, he could control and manipulate the gravity of any object or person he directly made contact with. Sometimes, he didn't even have to touch them. But behind all that, along with all that, his trump card was even more dangerous. 

Corruption, the ultimate form of Chuuya's ability. During this mode, the ability user failed to remain lucid. Robbed of his inhibitions and conscience, he was only capable of mindless destruction. Anything and everything that stood in his way must be disintegrated into fine dust, till there remained no proof of it's existence in the first place.

To make it worse, there was no way for Chuuya to stop Corruption, once activated. The only way to stop him was either by his death, or by his former partner Dazai's wonderous nullification ability. Hence, it clearly made sense why those two used to be partners.

But that's besides the point.

Right now, near one of the many ports in Yokohama, Chuuya was captivated in the throes of Corruption. He'd lost his hat and his gloves, and his face and hair matted with blood, he erratically stumbled around, throwing balls of gravitons randomly. yards away from him, a few of his co-workers were taking shelter behind broken walls or crumbled cars. They had never had a chance to see this side of their superior, and quite frankly, that maniacal laughter sounded downright fearsome.

It took a few minutes for the Black Lizard duo, along with Higuchi and Akutagawa to assemble behind a single wall. Hidden away from the instinctive sights of their superior, the four of them were struggling to comprehend this whole situation, and how it exactly came about in the first place.

The beginning of this could be traced back to fifteen minutes ago, when the four of them were doing their mission of dealing with a group on punks who claimed to be under the Port Mafia umbrella of organisations. Needless to say, their claims were completely false, which is why it made sense to beat their asses. 

The group happened to be armed, making the fight last a little longer than it would have. Normally, Chuuya would be able to take down all of them within seconds. But one thing led to another, and he was required to cover Higuchi, who'd left herself open. Within seconds, somebody had sniped Chuuya's hat, which flew off immediately.

Before anybody could understand what had exactly happened, Chuuya's gloves had ripped apart to expose his bare hands, red patterns curling their way along the back of his hand. The same red crawled up his face, neck upwards, his eyes dilating enormously as the ground beneath his feet began to tremble.
