(K)NIGHT's POV
[ MIKA 3rd Album: What Love Is ]
Mukhang pinto 'yung physical album tulad ng dalawang nauna niyang albums.
Her 1st album: 'Mika へ', with the へ part meaning 'to' in Japanese, literally translates to 'To Mika'. It's an album she said she made for herself. The tracks inside are like letters addressed to her past younger self. Title track nito yung kantang kinanta niya sa opening, Teenage dream.
Nabanggit niya sa interview sa youtube channel niya na she have always sang for other people, have written songs for others to tell others that they are loved and are not alone but that she have never once done that for herself. Hindi pa siya kailanman kumanta para sa sarili niya, at nang mapagtanto niya 'yon at the time when she desperately needed someone, anyone to tell her she is not alone, the album started from there...
Yung buong album niyang yon, screams self-love and gratitude towards music--the one that became her companion in those hard painful times. The physical album looks like a white door, with music chords and music notes painted all over it like some kind of mural.
Her 2nd album: 'Once upon a blue moon', is an album she said she wrote for 'the nights that didn't become our future'. TSK.
The tracks inside are songs she said she have written while browsing through her old journal. Mga kantang nabuo habang binabasa niya yung mga nakasulat sa loob, reliving the moments and feelings she had at the time of writing those entries...
Sabi niya do'n sa vlog niya, sinulat niya yung album 'to put the love I have somewhere because it have become so heavy'.
Sabi niya, she wrote the songs to empty herself of it.
but that because even though it's heavy, that love is still precious to her, she didn't want to empty it on just any place, so she decided to empty them in her music.
Her second album screams heartbreak. It sounded like crying yourself to sleep. A longing for something beautiful that have already passed... Like a hand outstretched reaching for 'once a upon a time' but in the end touches nothing... A mourning of some sort, like a wolf's howling for a 'blue moon' that only happen once, and will therefore not appear again.
A dark blue door with golden stars scattered all over it. Reminiscent of the night sky... Again, perfect na naman para sa title track no'ng album na may title na 'The Nights that didn't become our future'. Isama mo pa yung track list niya na lahat, pag pinakinggan mo, gives off the impression for some reason that it's night time.
