Well who am I to keep you down?

1:30pm
I stirred reluctantly as I heard the door to my room close, it was my doctor."Hello Ms. Nicks, how are you feeling?"
"Mm, I'm ok, just tired." She was a pretty, young woman, with silky brown hair that reached her waist, and a general warmth that led me to like her almost instantly. In some ways she reminded me of how I was in my late twenties. Or how I could've been if I'd finished college, and not gotten into drugs- that's not to say I ever regret hitching a ride to LA with Lindsey in the spring of 1970.
"That's good to hear, you've been through a lot these past few days. Have you thought more about your pregnancy?" I sat up, releasing a long, painful breath.
"Honestly I'm...I don't know. I longed for a child as I got older, but I'm not sure I can manage this."
"You're in very good health aside from your broken leg, you can afford the best doctors in the world, it's not unrealistic of me to say you're more than capable." She smiled empathetically at me.
"I'm fine with you!" We both laughed softly, "It's not just that, it's...My um...The father..."
"Would that be Mr. Buckingham by any chance?"
"Yes," I bit my lip.
"He made quite an impression on the staff last night. I don't doubt that he cares about you."
I grimaced,"He's m-Oh hi." I said nervously as Lindsey entered the room.
"I'll leave you two to it, and oh your brother called, he'll be back to visit with your mother this evening."
"Thank-you," I called back to her as she left, the click of the closing door the precursor to a silence between me and Lindsey.
