"They're ours," Lindsey said to himself.
"I'd hope so sir!" The doctor added sarcastically, tilting the screen so both Stevie and Lindsey could see their children growing inside of her. Lindsey frowned. "He's kidding honey", I kissed his hand that was already laced in mine. His face softened,
"I know silly."
"They're so small," I gaped.
"Well you're barely two months, as you can see by your small bump, but I wouldn't worry- they'll grow fast!"
"I know, three kids at my age, me and Linds here are going to do a lot of running around!"
"That's what bubble baths were invented for!" Lindsey said, kissing my hand in turn. I laughed.
"Everything is perfect at the moment, you're all doing just fine, but I'm sure your other doctor has been through the- I mean I hate to have to do this but it's essential- the risks of having triplets especially at your age and size."
"I know...I..." Lindsey moved to place his arm around me protectively.
"And you've mentioned previous miscarriages to her, when you were a lot younger."
"Huh," I nodded solemnly.
"Ok, well keep stress to the minimum, your diet balanced and we'll see how things progress."
"What do you mean by that?" Lindsey said with a harsh look.
"I mean that this is most likely not going to be the smoothest ride, I've seen difficulties with triplets in women of all ages and sizes."
"Well we're not those people." He was being too defensive I knew, but I needed his strength, so when the doctor looked at me for moral support I merely cast him a blank expression. "Well thank-you Mr and Mrs-"
"Oh we're not married..." I said grinning naughtily at Lindsey.
"I see...The modern world! Well..I'll see you..." He flicked through his papers. "I'll see you this time next week...Lindsey and Stevie."
"Yep that's us." Lindsey confirmed.
"Wait I think I-"
"Thank-you!" I said as Lindsey helped me up from the seat and we walked out of the office.
"Do you think he?"
"Knew who we were?" I replied.
"Mm," he agreed placing an arm around my waist as we walked back to my room on the next floor. "Shit. I think so."
"It's fine," he jolted his wrist against the thin air.
"We could go on a witness protection programme if he spills our sonograms to the paps?" I joked.
"Yeh kind of like a free vacation."
"Yeh with no outside communication, sounds great. Why don't we just burn our record deals right here!" I mocked.
"Well they'll be no strenuous platform-heel twirling for you for a while anyway. Doctor's orders!"
"Huh!" I huffed as I walked back into my room and sat on the bed.
"So..." He started.
"Yes Lindsey!"
"Would you prefer to wait so you can be there when I tell Charlotte ? Or would you rather me do it ASAP?"
I sighed, dragging myself back to life to consider the inevitable complications we were about to create. "I think the doctor told me to avoid stress! Also, I don't want to intimidate her. I think this is for you to deal with Lindsey."
"Ok. I understand. I'll go in a few hours."
"Why not now?"
"Lunch!" He said enthusiastically. Before he could run off to fetch us something I called him back,
"Lindsey."
"Stevie," He beamed.
"I love you too."
