Charlotte had brought Will to the hospital to visit me and Lindsey the following afternoon. Lindsey had called her the morning after and explained everything. Lindsey was rocking Lena back and forth as I brushed my hair when they entered. "Hello," Charlotte said nervously, "Thanks for letting Will visit he really wants to see his sister, I'll collect him in an hour or two?"
"Of course," I smiled weakly, glad that there was no childish animosity between us. Lindsey nodded gravely. "And I'm sorry about...Your sons...But she looks beautiful." She gestured towards Lena and I thanked her as she left, Will tottering in to replace her. "Hi Stevie," he said quietly,"I'm sorry about my brothers, you are so nice and that shouldn't have happened to you. Or to daddy." He held out a bunch of red roses to me in bed. Lindsey placed Lena in her Moses basket and helped up Will to sit by me, greeting him with a kiss on the head. "Thank you so much Will, you're very nice too."
"I picked them for you! Daddy played me your song about roses." My heart swelled. "I am so grateful you little sweetie, now would you like to meet your sister?"
"Please Stevie and Daddy."
"I'll just get her," Lindsey said moving from my side to scoop Lena into his arms and then into mine as I leant against my pillows. Will gasped as Lena goggled up at him curiously, reaching out her tiny hand to her older brother. "Wow she's tiny." Will said looking between her and a glowing Stevie as Lindsey rubbed his back. "She came a little earlier than we expected, didn't she Stevie?" Lindsey said as Lena opened and closed her mouth like a goldfish, causing Will to giggle. "Yes daddy's right, so she had to fight harder than most babies."
"Oh," Will nodded. "Is she going to be ok?" He asked anxiously.
"She's going to be just fine." Lindsey reassured.
