Bokuto tossed the ball to Akaashi who calmly set it to Aoyuki. She ran up to the net and jumped. Aoyuki felt Kuroo’s shadow loom over her as he jumped a second after she did.

Aoyuki felt her eyebrow twitch in annoyance, It’s that damned time-lag again! She spiked, the ball only bouncing from Kuroo’s outstretched arms and back down the floor.

Blocked. Again.

Aoyuki panted as she landed on the floor, wiping the sweat on her forehead and trying not to get irritated by the mocking smile Kuroo sent her. By this time it’s already her fiftieth spike, and all of them were blocked.

“Hmm...” Bokuto squinted his eyes, holding his chin as if he’s a detective currently solving a mystery. “I think...Yuki-chan is lacking something...but i can’t pin point what it is.”

“You think?” Aoyuki raised an eyebrow.

Well, he’s not wrong there. Even Aoyuki felt all of her spikes were meaningless and a waste of time but she didn’t said anything since she herself didn’t know what’s missing whenever she spikes.

Silence settled on the gym as Bokuto squinted his eyes even more, the answer to his question at the tip of his tongue. Kuroo and Akaashi made eye contact knowingly, Aoyuki noticed but remained quiet.

Let’s just say that Akaashi and Kuroo knows just exactly what it is that Aoyuki is lacking since they’re the ones setting and blocking for her, but they decided to let Bokuto figure it out himself because he’s her mentor in spiking, not them.

There was it, the figurative light bulb on top of Bokuto’s head lit up as well as his bright eyes. Once he finally grasped the answer, he ended up smacking his forehead, laughing while shaking his head.

“Bokuto-senpai?” Aoyuki tilted her head, wondering if her mentor finally crossed the boundary between sanity and insanity.

“I finally know what you’re lacking!” Bokuto used the hand that he used to smack his forehead to point it slowly to Aoyuki for suspense effects. “You don’t have brains!”

Silence...

Akaashi’s eyes widened, and Kuroo immediately bursted laughing his infamous hyena laugh while clutching his stomach. While Aoyuki...Aoyuki got this blank expression in her face.

“Bokuto-san...!” Akaashi took a hesitant step towards Bokuto. For the first time, he was speechless because of a move that Bokuto pulled.

“That was--that was priceless--MRAHAHA!” Kuroo was unstoppable with his hyena laugh.

"No...brains?" Aoyuki finally snapped. “I don’t wanna hear that from you!”

Bokuto looked confused, “What?” it then took him a minute to realize what he said. He quickly shook his head, wide eyed as if caught red-handed. “I didn’t mean it like that, Yuki-chan!”

Aoyuki crossed her arms across her chest, slightly turning away from Bokuto who panicked even more at the sight of her turning away from him.

“I’m so sorry Yuki-chaaan!” he went behind Aoyuki and started poking her back like a guilty child. And Akaashi can’t help but to see those two ironic.

It seems like Aoyuki has her own emo mode, just like her Bokuto senpai.

Kuroo straightened up from bending over laughing, wiping the corner of his eyes but the wide grin was still on his face. “Well, that’s one way to put it.”

Aoyuki and Bokuto simultaneously turned to Kuroo, both pouting, making Akaashi turn his head away with a quiet pfft, finding the two highly amusing.

“What do you mean?” Aoyuki raised her eyebrows, still ignoring Bokuto who’s already teary eyed.

“In a way, Bokuto is right--and before you start sulking again, hear me out.” Kuroo raised a hand in an attempt to calm Aoyuki when he saw that she was about to retaliate about claiming Bokuto’s statement right. “What he’s meaning to say, is you’re not using your brain.”

“Yes! That’s what i’m trying to say!” Bokuto whined, tugging at Aoyuki’s shirt for her to look at him.

“That’s really different from ‘you don’t have brains!’ senpai!” Aoyuki snapped her attention towards Bokuto who folded in on himself, like a puppy getting scolded at. Which is weird since he looked like an owl but act like a puppy.

“Don’t be mad, Yuki-chan!” Aoyuki huffed, closing her eyes as she inhaled and calmed herself by exhaling slowly.

“Okay, I’m not mad anymore.” The moment that fully escaped her lips, Bokuto didn’t waste any time giving her a bear hug, wailing that he’s sorry and all that crap.

Aoyuki deadpanned, but let him nonetheless for his sake. Well, she knew that Bokuto can sometimes be airheaded and idiotic, so she figured that was just him having an episode of those.

“Well then, what do you mean by ‘I’m not using my brain’?” Aoyuki turned to look at Kuroo and Akaashi, with Bokuto still clinging to her.

“Exactly as it is. You’re not using your brain. You’re spiking with the only thought that ‘I have to get past Bedhead-senpai’ in your mind.” Kuroo started, looking at Bokuto and giving him a meaningful look.

Bokuto thankfully managed to get it so he unattached himself to his kouhai and stood in front of her with his hands on his hips, apparently all recovered from his clingy mode.

“That’s right! But you know Yuki-chan, spiking is not just about spiking to get past blockers. You also have to use your head.” Bokuto gestured at his own head, and Aoyuki did her best to keep her mouth shut about making a smart remark. “You have to think of different ways how to get past blockers not just by smashing through it. That’s why there’s a lot of attacking styles!”

“Attacking...styles?” Aoyuki tilted her head, now intrigued at the new knowledge.

“Mhm-mhm!” Bokuto closed his eyes, nodding with a smug smile on his face, feeling as if he’s the smartest in the world. He lifted his hand and started listing off, “There’s cross shot, broad hit, straight--”

Akaashi stepped in once noticing the clueless look in Aoyuki’s face. “How about we just show her how, Bokuto-san?”

A chance to not only show Yuki-chan how smart I am, but also to show her how cool I can be! Bokuto visibly brightened up at the idea.

And so, Bokuto showed Aoyuki spiking styles that he’s adept with, like cross shots and straights, he also tried broad hit and a lot of things thanks to Akaashi and his amazing sets. Also, Bokuto didn’t let the chance where he can finally teach someone his super awesome cut shot so he introduced it to Aoyuki who eagerly tried it a few times and as expected, it was sloppy as hell.

“Oh wow, I..I didn’t know there’s a lot of way a spiker can get past blockers!” Aoyuki basically has stars in her eyes as she looked up at Bokuto who walked up to her once done demonstrating, Akaashi beside him and Kuroo beside Aoyuki, looking peeved that Bokuto got to show off and interest Aoyuki in spiking more than blocking.

“That’s why volleyball is a lot of fun!” Bokuto grinned, feeling like he’s superman by the way his kouhai was looking at him with starstruck eyes.

“Shall we try spiking again, Kamiyui-san?” Akaashi offered her a small smile.

“Yes please Akaashi-san!” and with that, Kuroo and Bokuto watched the two go towards the court to set and spike.

“Damn you Bokuto, hooking her to spiking like that.” Kuroo grumbled beside Bokuto who laughed loudly, throwing his head back.

“You just gotta up your game, Kuroo! Or else you might realize after this training camp my Yuki-chan is offically a spiker and a student of Fukurodani!” Bokuto smacked Kuroo’s back.

Kuroo’s scowl only deepened after realizing that him, the master of provocation, is being provoked.
