As the match progresses, Aoyuki’s eyebrows almost turning into a universal eyebrow by how much she’s furrowing them. Seeing her Bokuto-senpai on the other side of the court looking like he’s just there for a decoration was confusing her.
Why isn’t Akaashi-san using Bokuto-senpai to score? Don’t tell me he’s actually gonna listen to Bokuto-senpai and not toss to him anymore? Aoyuki snapped back to reality when she heard Fukurodani cheer, they got one more point in apparently. She facepalmed, don’t tell me I zoned out again?
Aoyuki didn’t have more time to scold herself when a serve zoomed in towards them which came from Fukurodani. Nishinoya bent his knees and received the ball perfectly, redirecting the ball towards Kageyama who tossed the ball to Asahi. The ball grazed the very top of Fukurodani’s blockers’ fingertips, it was a chance ball.
“Free ball!” Akaashi announced. Fukurodani’s #11 received the ball.
Aoyuki assessed her opponents, Right now, there are two attackers on the front line. Is it going to be a quick from the center? An attack from the back? Her eyes snapped towards her owl-looking senpai who looked lost. Or is Akaashi-san finally gonna let Bokuto-senpai spike again?
Aoyuki closed her eyes and took a deep breath, hearing Kuroo’s voice inside her head. “Read block. Always watch the ball.”
She opened her eyes and nodded to herself. She stared at the ball, only to see Akaashi push the ball down the net. aoyuki’s eyes widened, and before she knew it she was already diving down the floor, one hand stretched.
Too bad.
Aoyuki watched as the ball bounced in front of her face, as if it was mocking her for her slowness. She blinked, before slowly looking back up only to make eye contact with Akaashi who was watching her on the floor with steady gunmetal blue eyes. Then to her surprise, a small smirk painted itself into Akaashi’s lips, his eyes glittering in amusement.
Wha---Akaashi-san?! To say that Aoyuki was shocked was an understatement. She never took Akaashi to be one to be amused after seeing their opponent lose a point.
“Aoyuki.” Aoyuki broke her eye contact with Akaashi once Kageyama lent his hand to her, and she accepted it without a word and only gave him a small smile as she stood back up. She turned her back to Fukurodani. Why? Cause Aoyuki didn’t want Akaashi to see how her cheeks turned red. Everyone would be stupid if they think seeing a smirking Akaashi isn’t hella hot.
“Is it just me, or I don’t think pretty much has changed even if their captain isn’t getting some spikes in.” Nishinoya suddenly spoke up, hands on his hips as he looked towards Fukurodani, a slight furrow in his brows.
“I think it’s the latter.” Asahi commented, also looking at Fukurodani.
“What do you think Aoyuki-chan?” Aoyuki blinked back to reality when Daichi turned to her.
“Huh?”
“What do you think?”
“uhh...”
Her whole team stared at her expectantly, then confusedly once it’s literally taking her seconds to respond, plus the look in her eyes screamed that she had no idea what she’s supposed to say.
Aoyuki heard Tsukishima snicker loudly from the sidelines, then it was followed by a remark. “I think pipsqueak dove to the floor harder than she’s intending to, idiot.” Then he let out a laugh that sounded extremely close to an amused one.
