One hour later...

The sound of balls being smacked down and bouncing down the floor resonated in the third gymnasium as Aoyuki slowly got the hang of spiking repeatively, with Bokuto’s voice also echoing around.

“Look for an opening!”

Considering her Bokuto-senpai’s comment on the side, Aoyuki’s focused lavender eyes trailed after the ball that Akaashi tossed to her, currently mid air, then her eyes darted towards the other side of the net where she can see past Kuroo’s arms and block. She swung her arm and spiked, but Kuroo’s smirk widened, completely reading the newbie spiker in front of him.

Kuroo swiped his arms to the left, the ball slamming on his wrists, before bouncing back down the ground. Aoyuki and Kuroo both landed at the same time, eyes on the ball.

“Hah! Take that ribbon-chan!” Aoyuki narrowed her eyes at Kuroo, before turning her nose up and wiped the sweat that formed under her chin with her wrist.

“Psh, I’ll wipe that smirk from your face.”

“Someday, but not today.” Kuroo tutted, the smirk seemingly permanent in his lips.

Aoyuki’s breath was slightly knocked out of her lungs when Bokuto enveloped her in his bear hug and squeezed. He let go and faced Aoyuki, his smile wide and bright and proud.

“That was amazing, Yuki-chan!” Aoyuki can almost see the stars in Bokuto’s bright yellow eyes. Akaashi nodded his head, a small smile visible in his lips.

Aoyuki laughed, a little unsure. "You're just saying that because I'm your kouhai."

“Nope, Bokuto’s right. You’ve improved at such a short time it’s almost ridiculous.” They looked at Kuroo who lifted the net so that he can get to where they are.

Aoyuki gave him a dubious look and he immediately felt offended.

“Hey, I’m being honest this time.” Kuroo put his hands in a surrendering manner.

Aoyuki harrumphed, “Well, it’s your fault for being always so shady.”

Kuroo was telling the truth though. He actually find it ridiculous how fast Aoyuki managed to get the hang of spiking in just an hour and a half, and he can tell that even Akaashi was feeling that way.

If Bokuto who was only watching on the side was able to tell that Aoyuki’s spikes has improved, then imagine just how quick Kuroo and Akaashi noticed her rapid improvement when they’re the one setting and blocking for her. Her growth was so fast the two of them almost had to take her seriously in order to keep up with her pace. Almost.

Kuroo was really impressed, and proud, even though she was spiking and not blocking. Same goes for Akaashi, since Aoyuki didn’t made adjustments with his sets and just kept on spiking them without any complaints.

Like a true talented player. An unpolished gem.

Aoyuki turned to Bokuto with an apologetic look, “Sorry I still couldn’t get past bedhead-senpai’s block, Bokuto-senpai.”

Bokuto furrowed his eyebrows at her as if confused why she’s apologizing. He shook his head and grinned, ruffling Aoyuki’s already disheveled hair.

“I’m sure by the end of this training camp, you’ll be able to.” Bokuto told her, and Aoyuki was slightly taken aback by how serious Bokuto sounded even though he was smiling.

She chuckled nervously, “I-I’m not really sure about that, senpai.” Aoyuki then looked to the side when she saw something popped in the corner of her eye. Her eyebrow shot towards the ceiling after recognizing the new figure that stepped into the third gym and decided to join them.
