One year later:

"I can't believe you're getting married today." Ari screams, bursting into my room with Eva.

"I can't believe you're busting into my room at the crack of dawn." I groan, covering my face as she opens the blinds.

"It's my duty as maid of honour to wake you up at the crack of dawn."

"Mama!" Eva jumps on to the bed.

"Hi baby." I coo. "Are you ready to dress like a princess?"

"Princess!" She screams.

Since gathering all my belongings and leaving my brief past behind, time seemed to have run away with us.

Duke didn't want to wait long before setting a date, claiming that I needed to be attached to him in every way. I didn't argue with it, I was excited to start my forever with my family.

"You need to start getting ready. The makeup artist will be here soon."

"I want to get Eva ready first, she's been dying to put on her dress since we bought it." I laugh, feeding off my daughters excitement.

"Princess, princess, princess!" Eva screams again, tugging at my arm.

I scoop Eva up, swinging her around the room. Her giggles become infectious and has us all in fits of laughter by the time I slip her dress over her delicate head. She had turned into the spitting image of Duke in the last few months, taking in every detail of him even up to his laziness. All of Duke's brothers were fiercely protective of Eva, I had never known a child to bring a load of men to their knees.

"Look at you." I admire. "You look like a real princess."

"Show daddy!" Eva runs to the door, attempting to grab the handle.

"You have to wait to show daddy, he would love to see you later."

Her lip turns out into a pout. "Okay."

The makeup artist arrived soon after, creating a soft makeup look. I wanted something subtle and not too much seeing as I never wore much makeup. It only took forty-five minutes before she had finished.

"Have a look in the mirror, see what you think."

"I want to put my dress on first, to see the look as a whole."

"Of course, I think your friend has your dress ready." She glances in the direction of Ari.

"You know me too well." I joke, eyeing my dress.

"Come on, get in. I'm dying to see it!"

The zip felt like ice against my back as Ari zipped me into my dress. Realisation was setting in now. I was soon to become Mrs Abigail Langston. Part of me was excited to get married to Duke but the other part of me was terrified. Marriage was forever, yet it didn't work out for both of our parents.

"Hey, I can see the doubt whirring in your head." Ari catches my attention, fastening the last button on the back of the dress. "I know that Duke loves you, and you love him just as much in return."

"I know."

"Go look at yourself in the mirror, you look so stunning Abbie."

Holy hell.

I didn't recognise the person standing in front of me. They looked confident and beautiful.

"That is you you're looking at Abbie." Ari chuckles.

"Stop reading my mind."

"Mama princess!" Eva makes grabby hands for my dress, but I scoop her up before she coats it with grease.
