The smell of bacon wafted through the house, causing an ungodly growl to admit from my stomach. My arm covering it in the hope to mask the noise. I refused to let Duke hear it, otherwise, I would have to eat something.
I was angry and upset with Duke and felt used. It must have been his plan all along to use me until he'd had enough then send me to another state to live. It made me wonder how many other women he had done it to as well.
In the end, I gave up being stubborn about the Netflix login and put a new show on that had made news headlines for the ending. Saying that I was extremely engrossed in the series was an understatement. I was obsessed with it; eager to find out the ending.
I was unsure of how long I had been sat there, watching countless episodes but a body suddenly moved in front of the screen, blocking my view.
"Turn it off," Duke warns.
"Move out of the way." I roll my eyes, tilting my body to one side.
Duke shuffles to the side, covering my view again. "Abigail."
"Duke, please go away." I try the nice approach, hoping that it will work.
"Don't make me turn it off."
"It's my house Duke, go away."
The nice approach quickly dissolved, and anger was slowly coursing through my veins. I'd had enough of Duke thinking that he could control every aspect of my life and I would sit down and not think anything of it. This was now my house and my new fresh start; I refused to have Duke taint or ruin it.
Duke still stood there, not saying a word but staring me down intensely. A warning gaze plastered all over his face.
"Well if you're going to just fucking stand there, I'll go elsewhere." I throw the remote across the room, causing it to bash against the wall and the batteries to fall out.
As I ran out of the living room, I tried to cool my expression, refusing to let the tears fall. Duke wasn't worth my tears anymore; he wasn't even worth my time. Before I could get out of the doorway, two large hands clamped down on my waist, stopping me from going any further.
"Let me go." I grit out, attempting to wriggle out of his grip.
"You need to calm down." Duke calmly states.
"Calm down?" I seethe. "Are you seriously telling me to calm down?"
My movements became erratic, I most likely looked like a child throwing a fit in the store when they couldn't get the toy they wanted but I couldn't care less. I had completely lost my cool, tears streamed down my face and feral screams left my mouth.
"Abigail for fuck sake! You're going to give yourself another panic attack."
"Why should you even be bothered about that? You don't even care about me!"
"Where have you got this from?"
"I can tell! Why else would you screw me for months just to send me to another state when you're bored."
"Is that what this is about?"
"Don't act so damn shocked, you know exactly why I'm mad. Now let me go!"
"I'm not going to let you go until you calm down."
"Then we're going to be here a very long time." I threaten, hoping that he would unhand me.
"So be it then." Duke hoists me up, still holding me in an iron grip and settles down on the sofa.
"Why do you do this to me?" I sob, still trying to get out of his grip.
