The halls in the house felt desolate and empty as I wandered through them. It had been ten years since my mother passed away. Ten years of being alone. My father would only talk to me if it was something to do with his business.

A couple of years after my mother's death, my dad started including me in the club and its side of the business. At first, I told him no and that I wanted nothing to do with it. Taking part in his business meant that I was becoming like him. I would rather die than be like my father.

I was adamant about relenting to learn about the business because of my mother's wishes. A few days before she passed away, she had a conversation with me. Most of what was said was very unimportant but her last words before she walked away always stayed with me.

"You're a better person than your father could ever be. No matter what happens in the future, don't become like him. He may look like a good person in your eyes, but he's evil."

It had taken several severe beatings for me to give in and start learning everything about the club. I mainly gave in because I was so concerned about my health. A couple of the beatings had left me with severe injuries which took weeks to heal. As much as I wanted to see my mother again, it couldn't be from my father's hand.

Originally, I was shocked when I found out what my dad did. It was assumed that he just ran a club for his motorcycle gang, I was very wrong.

My childhood had been very sheltered because of my mother. She wouldn't allow me to see the dark side of life. My lack of a tainted childhood caused a huge surprise when working with my dad.

The first time I saw a huge shipment of cocaine, I was shocked beyond belief and slightly scared. Knowing that something so simple could alter someone's mind and possibly kill them made me feel uncomfortable.

Seeing my dad kill someone caused me to throw up violently and almost faint. I can remember my father yelling at me, telling me how weak and stupid I was. It made me more determined than ever to escape this life I was being dragged into.

Only once had my dad tried to make me kill someone, but I couldn't go through with it. I didn't even care if it made my dad bully and abuse me more. I couldn't take someone's life away from them. I preferred other people to do the dirty work for me.

"She was a stupid woman. Look at the impact she had on my sorry excuse of a son." I can hear my father say on the other side of the door.

I was so deep into my thoughts when walking, I hadn't even realised that I was currently passing my dad office.

"Maybe you should get rid of him. Like you did with your unborn child." My dad's right-hand man, Adrian says.

"It would be too obvious. He has too much involvement with the club now." Dad complains.

"Plant evidence to make him look like a traitor." Adrian matter of factly says.

"We don't need to get rid of him yet, he's still quite useful. I've never seen someone do the accounting as well as he does."

"How about we hire a private accountant instead? Duke could make mistakes one day." Adrian tries to reason.

"Accountants cost too much; Duke is doing fine."

"What are you going to do with him once he becomes useless?"

"I'll get rid of him as I did with his sorry excuse of a mother."

Rage courses through my body at his words. I knew something was wrong when I came across my mother's lifeless body. Nobody that hangs themselves gets a finger-shaped bruise on their neck. Seeing as I didn't want to dwell on her death, I swept it under the carpet and tried not to think about it. But now, I needed answers.

From what my dad had taught me, it was best to get as much information as possible before planning any attack. With that in mind, I take out my phone and hit the record button. I needed to get as much leverage on my father as possible.

"I must say, you did cover-up that murder exceptionally well. Nobody even suspected a thing!" Adrian compliments.

"Thank you, Adrian! It must be my finest work yet. Not even Duke could figure it out." My dad beams. "I'm glad I killed her in the end, I would hate for Duke to become like his mother."

"Yes, I did notice that he was always around her. It was like his world only revolved around Alexandra. Stupid boy if you ask me."

"She was meant to run away you know." My dad blurts out.

"Your wife was?" Adrian baffles.

"Yeah, when she fell pregnant the second time I told her to get rid of it. She didn't want to, so she made a plan to run away with Duke. It was very well planned out; I was almost impressed. She would have got away if she didn't use my bank card to withdraw a hundred thousand dollars." He admits. "I couldn't allow her to run away with my only heir to the business and club. When I first confronted her about it, she begged and sobbed for me to let her leave. She claimed this life wasn't right for Duke or the baby."

"I understand why you killed her boss." Adrian supports.

My body was shaking uncontrollably now but I needed to keep my composure. My mother didn't deserve to die, that was obvious but there was nothing I could do about it now.

"She was extremely selfish to think that she could run away and have no repercussions from it."

"Indeed boss."

"Anyway, about this new drug shipment coming in..." Dad starts.

I turn the recording off shortly after my father changes the subject. My eyes gazed down at the recording I had just taken, and my hands shook. I had a powerful bank of information, but I needed to find the right way to use it. Going to the police and handing my father in would be too easy, he didn't deserve that. There had to be a bigger and better source I could use.

Eventually, I stopped standing outside the office door like a lemon and moved into the garden. Sitting down by the small flower garden, I started plotting some sort of plan.

Using the note's app on my phone, I made a list of different motorcycle gangs and mafia's that surrounded my dad's. At least one of them had to be an enemy to him. My dad was the most ruthless and heartless person, causing problems with other people was his speciality.

Trying to write down everything from memory on a notes app was proving to be useless. If I was going to do this, extensive research had to be carried out. That meant stepping foot into enemies territory to collect information. It could possibly get me killed but if it meant getting revenge, it would be worth every minute of danger.

Not wasting any more time, I stand up and storm to the front door. Before I make it there the door to my dad's office opens.

"Ah, Duke!" He calls out. "Where are you heading?"

"Out." I dismiss, not even turning to speak to him properly.

"What's got into him recently?" My dad questions.

I hop on to my motorbike and kickstart it straight away, not wasting any time. Nothing else mattered anymore, I just needed revenge.
