I slowly wake up, unaware of my surroundings. The pain in my eyes concerned me. Why did they hurt so much?
Suddenly the events of the last 24 hours came back to me. Stealing money, getting caught and having a severe panic attack. Duke had drugged me, but where was he?
Quickly getting out of bed, the covers were thrown back and I ran to the door. I tried the door handle straight away. It was locked.
"For gods sake!" I cursed, annoyed with the ongoing theme of having doors locked on me. There had to be some sort of way out.
Looking out the window, all that could be seen was acres of forest behind the house. Below the window was a big drop, it was uncertain how big but if I jumped down, serious injuries would be sustained. Even if I did survive the drop, I would have to run though the forest and I wasn't sure how long it went on for.
The thought of taking a chance appealed to me greatly. I inspected the window for any kind of switches or handles, there wasn't any visible.
Footsteps could be heard coming towards the room I was situated in. Panic rose in my chest of having to see Duke again after stealing from him. Without thinking, I ran over to the bed and hid under the covers, pretending to sleep.
A quiet click of the lock sounded, then the door slowly opened. Footsteps slowly walked from the outside of the door to around the room.
Trying to keep my breathing even so Duke would think I was sleeping, and he would go away. My escape plan could be made then.
"I know you're awake." A deep booming voice comments, scaring me half to death but I was determined not to move. He needed to go away.
A deep grumble comes from Duke. "Abigail get out of bed."
I stayed put, purposefully ignoring him. He wasn't going to win this fight.
"Last warning."
I couldn't care less for what he was saying. He had already drugged and kidnapped me. What could be worse than that?
Suddenly, the covers were flown back, and two big hands gripped me around the waist. Pulling me out of bed.
"No, stop! Let me go!" I kicked and screamed, trying to get away.
"Not a chance." Duke booms. "You still have questions that you need to answer."
"I don't have to tell you shit!"
"Oh, so you do have something to admit?" Duke preens.
"Well I'm obviously not going to tell you." I retort.
"Then you can stay here for longer." He walks away.
"Can the prisoner eat anything?" I snap. "Or is that illegal?"
Duke stops to look back, anger on his face. "I'll bring you some food up, but you can stay here."
Before I could come up with a witty and smart reply, Duke shut and locked the door behind him. I had messed up big time and it seemed that being kidnapped was bring generous in his mind.
Walking to the window again, I inspect it more thoroughly hoping to find something small that could give any idea on how to escape. Either I wasn't looking close enough or the window was very secure. A plain piece of glass secured tightly.
Knocking lightly on the window to test the durability, I found that it was not a flimsy piece of glass at all. It was rock solid!
The sound of the door opening was the only reminder that Duke was coming back to give me food. Why hadn't I heard the sound of the lock turning.
