The loud shrill of my phone abruptly wakes me from my slumber. Immediately, I go to finding the phone, needing to know who was calling me.
I hadn't meant to fall asleep on the couch, I wasn't even sure how long I'd been out of it. When I eventually found my phone, Evan's name was present.
"Aren't you meant to be stalking someone?" I joked.
"You need to get here now!" He panics, his breathing erratic.
All the humour leaves my body and tension takes over. "What's happened?"
"The Bratva is attacking the club."
I sit up and try to wrap my head around the situation. The Bratva were attacking my club.
"I'll be there in thirty minutes."
I don't bother waiting for Evan's reply and hang up the phone, making a beeline for Abbie's room. I find her sprawled out on the bed watching some Netflix show. She immediately death stares me down but her expression changes when she sees the panic and anger in my face.
"What's wrong?" She concerns.
"I don't have time for that right now, you need to come with me." I go to grab her arm, wrenching her off the bed.
There was no way in hell I was going to let her free roam the house while the Bratva were out on an attack. Seeing as they're after Mason, they wouldn't hesitate to use Abbie as leverage or bait. I needed her safe to keep myself somewhat sane while sorting this shit out.
"Duke, you're worrying me."
Abbie was digging her heels into the floor, wasting my time. My hands grab her waist and chuck her over my shoulder, making her squeal.
"This is fucking life or death Abbie, behave."
The safe room was up ahead. It would be the first time using it seeing as I'm usually in on the attacks. It bothered me that Abbie would be the first person to use it, I wouldn't know if it would be comfortable for her, but I couldn't ponder on that now.
I manage to get the passcode right on the first try and the door swings open. I gently let Abbie down on to the bed, giving her a warning look to stay put. Quickly, I rush over to my room and search for her phone, blocking all contacts and adding my number.
When I get back, I hand the phone over, making Abbie's eyes go wide.
"You can only contact me, don't even try contacting anyone else." I start. "If anything happens you need to contact me right away."
"I'm really worried." Her eyes swim with unshed tears.
My eyes close and I try to calm myself down. My lips kiss her forehead and linger for a while, not wanting to leave her alone.
"You'll need to contact me every thirty minutes otherwise your ass is toast."
The door shuts and seals behind me, making me feel nervous to leave her behind. Deep down, I know that nothing wrong will happen to Abbie, but it didn't make my departure any easier.
"Thank god you're here boss." Ryder relieves.
"What's happened?"
My eyes frantically gazed over the outside of the club, checking for any expensive damage.
"They left a while ago; all the damage is inside."
I allow Ryder to lead me inside, mentally preparing myself for the outcome as I enter.
Bullet holes riddled the interior like a quirky decoration, among blood splatters along the walls. The was a brutal attack with a very stern warning. Next time they wouldn't be so kind.
