Trying to suppress the rage from our argument was more difficult than I thought. She shouldn't think that it's okay to speak to me like that. If anything I should be giving her a hot ass and having her beg for mercy but she's in pain, so I have to leave it.
I continue trying to prepare the food I was making for Abbie; it was past one o'clock by the time we had sorted out everything from this morning. So she had to be hungry.
I had yet to phone the club and tell them I'm not coming in but I'm sure they could get the hint by now. Or they would think that I am dead, hopefully not the latter.
As I got up to the room Abbie was in, I couldn't hear any noises. She was either sleeping or sulking.
"You better eat this food or you're going to be in trouble," I warn, placing the plate on the bedside table.
No response came, so I had to assume she was sleeping. As soon as I closed the bedroom door, the ruffling of the bedsheets was heard along with the scraping of the plate being picked up. A small smile tugged at my lips knowing that she was trying to ignore me, she wouldn't be able to last doing that for long.
Knowing that she wanted space, I decided to camp out downstairs until she decided to stop sulking and get some sense into her.
After a while, it dawned on me why I never take time off. Sitting at home and doing nothing was boring me half to death. I liked being active and doing a lot, I didn't even like watching TV. The makeshift gym I made in the garden was my only way to keep myself entertained for a long amount of time.
Making my way to the gym, I decided a long, hard workout was needed to take my mind off everything.
Pushing my limits wasn't something I usually did when lifting weights. I had no one to spot me or make sure I didn't injure myself. I couldn't care less about that today; I deserve all the pain I can get.
My breathing became ragged as I got on to my third rep of deadlifting the two hundred and seventy-pound weight. I may have gone overboard on what weights to use but it didn't matter.
Abbie was hurt, and I caused that pain. This is why I never got close to anyone; I just end up harming them. Just like my mother was.
The blaring ring of my phone caught me off guard and caused the heavy weight to drop, missing my feet by mere inches. A silent curse leaves my lips and I angrily pick up the phone.
"What?" I scowl.
"Jesus Duke, where the fuck are you?" Ryder panics.
"I'm alive, I'm just taking a day off that's all." I shrug.
"You're meant to tell people if you're having the day off you know."
"You can all do fine without me."
"We need you right now Duke, it's urgent." He overreacts.
"what's happened?" I enquire.
"One of the guards has been shot and someone was trying to steal money from you."
"Fuck!" I kick the barbell in anger, realizing quickly that it was a bad idea. Pain throbs through my right foot.
"Yeah, you need to get here right now."
"Give me thirty minutes."
I hang up the phone angrily and try to calm myself, before I throw my phone at a wall.
Why were people trying to steal money from my club all of a sudden? This had to be Mason's doing, he's the only person I know of that is in such dire need of money.
