Tension radiated through the house.

It had not been long since Pavel left but the screams and shouts of his men could be heard from upstairs. From the occasional word I caught on to, Pavel was in danger and they all needed to leave to help him.

Pride and nerves surged in my chest knowing that what Duke had planned was going successfully. I was nervous as this could be my chance to escape. If they left Rachael behind too -assuming she was still here- we could escape and get to safety.

Minutes upon minutes of arguing passed, the men all seeming to think their point could be crossed easier if they yelled at each other. I was eagerly waiting for them to leave, hoping that my escape could be made.

The only current problem I would come across was the lock on the door. Hopefully, Rachael would know where the key on the door was seeing as she has entered here before. As a child, I never felt the need to learn to pick locks, now I was silently cursing myself.

Loud thundering footsteps, sounded in the distance. Slowly, they came to the stairs then started descending. Maybe one of them was coming to give me a stern talking to about 'no funny business' then they would all be on their way.

The overly loud clash of the door after it was unlocked sounded through the room and one of Pavel's men came through the door. His long dark hair covered most of his face, hiding all of his facial expressions. Tattoo's covered his arms in a sea of ink, most of it in foreign writing, almost making me want to ask what they meant. Everything about him was mysterious. probably how he liked it.

"It looks like it's your lucky day." He beams, pulling out a pair of handcuffs.

"What's that for?" I immediately question.

"We all need to leave the safe house to help Pavel, no thanks to your baby daddy. So we're taking extra precautions to make sure you don't even try anything funny."

"That won't be necessary." I start to shuffle back against the bed. My back hitting up against the post.

"It will be necessary."

He roughly grabs my hand in a bruising grip and snaps the cuff around my wrist, tightening it until my skin starts to pinch around the cool metal. I immediately wince at the pain it was causing within mere seconds.

"That's a bit tight," I comment, showing him my wrist.

"I don't care." He dismisses, snapping the other cuff to the bars in the headboard.

The man walks out of the room, locking the door behind him. Defeat takes over my body within seconds as I knew my plan was useless now. My only hope now would be for Duke to come and get me.

...

It feels like hours have passed before any sort of movement is made upstairs. A single heavy set of footsteps are heard walking around. Their movements were cautious as if they had never been here before.

Soon, another set of footsteps join the first. The same cautious footsteps walking around. They start to talk to each other, their unintelligible murmur heard through the floorboards. I wanted nothing more than to scream and shout for help, but I didn't know if it was Duke's brothers. Knowing my luck, I would call out for them and it would be an enemy of Pavel's.

Many minutes pass and more footsteps sound before they reach the stairs. My breath catches in my throat, worried that they would find me soon.

Duke told you his plan, you have no reason to be afraid.

I keep repeating those words in my head, convincing myself that I was overthinking the situation. Not a single person had entered the premises my entire time here, they wouldn't randomly appear now.
