Emma had a he for she live conference today and it would be Michael's first time seeing his mother speak for he for she.

Emma had been doing these conferences for a while now but took a little break once Michael was born so she could spend some time with her family. Today was her first speech since she had Michael two years ago.

(Y/n) was against taking Michael and just letting him watch it at home since babies don't really belong at UN meetings and as much as Emma wanted Michael to go, she knew (Y/n) was right.

So she had finished getting ready and spent some time with Michael before heading off to her conference. (Y/n) had the conference ready on the Tv so him and Michael could watch it from home.

An hour later Emma's speech was about to start so (Y/n) turned on the channel and got Michael. They both sat down on the couch and waited. Michael was busy playing with his toys and (Y/n) was on his phone.

"Thank you all for being here for this important moment. Not just the conference but also my first one in forever after my break. Feels good to be back." Emma started, and Michaels head shot up as he looked around for his mother. "She's up there. Look." (Y/n) whispered, turning Michael's head so he could see his mother on the Tv.

"These men from all over the world have decided to make gender equality a priority in their lives and in their universities. Thank you for making this commitment. I graduated from university many years ago. I had always dreamed of going and I know how fortunate to have had the opportunity to do so." Emma spoke, making Michael make his way over to the Tv and sit right in front of it.

"Brown became my home, my community and I took the ideas and the experiences I had there into all of my social interactions, into my workplace, into my politics, into all aspects of my life. I know that my university experience shaped who I am, and of course it does for many people. But what if our experience of university shows us that women dont belong in leadership."

"What if it shows us that yes women can study, but they shouldn't lead a seminar. What if it still tells us in other places around the world that women don't belong there at all. What if as is in far too many universities we are given the message that sexual violence isn't actually a form of violence, but we know that if you change a students experiences so they have different expectations of the world around them, expectations of equality, society will change."

"As we leave home for the first time to study at the places that we have worked so hard to get, we must not see or experience double standards. We need to see equal respect, leadership and pay. The university experience must tell women that their brain power is valued and not just that but that they belong within the leadership of the university itself."

"And so importantly right now, the experience must make it clear that the safety of women, minorities and anyone who may be vulnerable is a right and not a privilege. A right that will be respected by a community that believes and supports survivors and that recognizes that when one persons safety is violated, everyone feels their own safety is violated. A university should be a place of refuge that takes action against all forms of violence."

"That's why we believe that students should leave university believing in, striving for, and expecting societies of true equality. Societies are true equality in every sense and that universities have the power to be a vital catalyst for that change."

"Our ten impact champions have made this comment and with their work we know they will inspire students and other universities and schools across the world to do better."

"Im delighted to introduce this report on their progress and im eager to hear what's next. Thank you so much."

Michael starting clapping for her after seeing everyone else do it on the Tv and then saw her leave the screen. He looked around for her again and noticed she wasn't here.

"You know, I think you're mother is going to want you to go to university. But we don't have to worry about that for many years." (Y/n) joked and picked Michael up.

Emma's speech had been a success and she was happy to have made a difference is peoples lives. (Y/n) and Michael were also very proud of her, and they spent the rest of the day together as a family.

(This is one of my favorite speeches from Emma besides the iconic and famous debut UN speech and I felt like it needed to be shared. I totally recommend you all go watch it. It is very informative!)
