The shouting echoed throughout the house as the parents continued arguing. (Y/n) was sat in bed, listening to the argument trying to hear any important information.

(Y/n)'s parents had always fought, but it was never this big. He tried to hold back the tears as his parents continued to fight. So far what he could make out was his dad cheated on his mom, or at least that's what she thought. As he listened to the argument, he felt like he needed someone, and he had the perfect person. She wasn't here, but she was always a phone call away.

(Y/n) grabbed his phone and pressed the call button. After a few rings, she picked up. "(Y/n), what's going on? It's late, why are you calling?" Emma asked groggily. She must have woken up from his call. "They're fighting again, but this time it's worse." (Y/n) explained, his voice breaking as he did so. "Are you okay?" Emma asked again, worried for him. "I'm fine. They're in the other room. It's really bad. I don't know if they're going to last this time." He explained. Although he couldn't see it, Emma was frowning at what he said.

"Do you want me to come get you or something? I don't want you to be alone." Emma told him, and he thought about it for a moment. "I don't know. I want to know what happens, but I also don't want to be here." He told her as the shouting got worse, so much that Emma could hear it over the phone. "Listen to me (Y/n), it'll take twenty minutes for me to get there, stay on the phone, do not hang up. I'm coming to get you. Pack a few pairs of clothes okay?" She commanded, and he nodded. "Okay. Yeah. Got it." He responded, trying to convince himself. "Everything's going to be fine (Y/n), I'm getting in my car right now. Just pack your things and I'll tell you when I'm there. Everything's going to be okay, I promise." Emma reassured.

(Y/n) grabbed a nearby backpack and shoved a few pairs of clothes inside it. He changed out of his pajamas, putting on a hoodie and sweats. The fighting got louder, and (Y/n) could hear loud sobs. "Emma please hurry up, it's getting worse. I don't want to hear it anymore; I take it back I don't want to know what's going on. Just please hurry." (Y/n) pleaded. "I'm coming over right now (Y/n), just hold on a few more minutes." Emma told him, speeding up a bit faster.

(Y/n) snuck out of his house successfully and sat outside on the front porch waiting for Emma. He could still hear the yelling, but it was fainter. As he sat there listening to the argument, Emma's car pulled up and she stepped out of it. She went over to where he was sat and took a spot next to him. She wrapped her arms around him, and he leaned into her, not a word being said between the two.

They got up soon after and left the house, going back to Emma's. Her parents welcomed him and gave him a cup of tea before showing him the guest bedroom. (Y/n) sat in the bed and texted his mom where he was so she didn't get worried, before going to bed. Emma came in shortly after, lying with him and making sure he felt okay.

"Why can't they just be happy?" (Y/n) whispered mostly to himself, but also to Emma. "I don't know. Some people aren't meant to be. I'll always be here for you (Y/n). I promise." Emma responded quietly, and with that, the two fell asleep cuddled up together, ending the rough night there. And (Y/n) finally felt like everything would be okay if Emma were there for him the entire time.
