Since Emma and Michael had such a strong bond, Michael had begun to develop separation anxiety. It was only mild but it was still an issue.
"Okay Michael, mummy's going to set today. But don't worry, I'll be back soon." Emma told her son just as she was ready to walk out the door. "No! No leave!" Michael shouted, a tantrum rising. "It's okay, you get to play with Ben and aunt Bonnie today! Isn't that fun?" She shared, and Michael shook his head. "I have to go, bye Michael. I'll be back soon. I love you!" Emma whispered to him and kissed his cheek a few times.
(Y/n) scooped up Michael in his arms while Emma walked out the door. Michael started screaming and crying for his mother. "It's okay, mummy will be back. Don't cry." (Y/n) reassured his son, although it was no help.
Bonnie and Ben arrived twenty minutes later and Michael had still not recovered from when Emma left. "Is he okay?" Bonnie asked once she heard Michael screaming and crying. "He's upset Emma left. He has mild separation anxiety." (Y/n) explained. "That's mild?" Bonnie questioned with her eyes wide. (Y/n) only shrugged while escorting them inside.
"Michael! Bens here!" He called out to his son. Ben walked in and saw Michael's toys spread out and started to play with them. While Bonnie and Ben were downstairs Michael was upstairs in his parents room, sitting in Emma's closet. It gave him comfort since it smelled like Emma. "Wanna go play with Ben?" (Y/n) asked Michael, the boy nodding while sniffling.
"Michael!" Ben screeched and started to bring his best friend toys to play with. The two boys sat down and played with their toys together while the adults talked. "Does that happen every time Emma leaves?" Bonnie asked, and (Y/n) nodded.
"Yeah, but he's been going to therapy to deal with it. He just plays games with the therapist while Emma isn't there so he can get past the anxiety. I don't really know how it works but it's definitely been working. Once he's distracted he forgets about Emma not being there. It used to be worse." (Y/n) explained. "There's worse?" Bonnie questioned, and (Y/n) nodded. "It was bad. Emma never really left Michael's side since he was born and up until a few months ago, so he got really attached to her. I also think it's cause of their bond and how it's so strong. But whenever she left he would just cry and cry and nothing would work. He would end up crying himself to sleep in her closet. But now it's gotten better, he's able to do other things and he won't remember she's gone if I keep him busy." He shared.
The two boys were now drinking Apple juice and sitting in the living room watching Spider-Man. (Y/n) and Bonnie were making sandwiches and chips for everyones lunch.
When the food was ready they all had lunch outside before going for a swim. Michael and Ben played sharks and minnows in the pool but their game didn't last long.
Once the two were out of the pool and dried off they went inside and finished their movie. By the time the movie was over Ben was asleep and Michael was just about to fall asleep as well.
Bonnie decided to take Ben home and they left soon after. Michael was asleep on the couch with his blanket over him when Emma walked through the door.
She saw Michael asleep on the couch and picked him up carefully. She brought him up to his bedroom and set him down on his bed before he woke up. "Mummy.." Michael mumbled, holding onto her. "Yeah, mummy's here. Do you wanna go back to sleep?" She asked, and Michael shook his head.
He got out of bed and handed her one of his toys while using his other hand to rub his eye, a thing he did when he was tired. Emma knew he would fall asleep again soon so she just sat down and played with him, knowing it wouldn't last long.
Just as Emma thought, ten minutes later Michael had fallen asleep on her. His hand was clutching her shirt and his head was buried into the crook of her neck.
She didn't have the heart to put him in his own bed but knew he really should sleep in his own bed so the separation anxiety didn't get worse. Michael would be fine if he woke up and his mother wasn't there as long as he could find her within five minutes.
So, Emma reluctantly put him in his bed and went back downstairs with (Y/n), getting some time for just the two of them.
"How was he?" Emma asked when she sat down next to (Y/n). "He was fine. After you left he was upset but then Ben came over and he played with him and was alright." (Y/n) explained.
The two adults spent their afternoon focused on each other's lips and watching different Tv shows.
