CHAPTER 22

"Why don't six of us just go to the store and the other six stay here to guard the rest of our stuff?"

The others stopped arguing on what to do, glancing over at Hitomi who seemed done with them while Nako just stood next to her nodding.

"Ah yeah that's true."

"That's a good idea Tomi."

Two groups were made, Eunbi, Hyewon, Hitomi, Nako, Yena, and Yuri would go to the store, while the remaining six would stay to watch over the area. Eunbi and Yena drove, leaving Chaeyeon's car to the others just in case something were to happen. The surroundings that the moving group passed frightened them, smoke rose from multiple different places, cracks into the earth leaving gaping holes in parks and the streets, rubble of fallen buildings from last night's earthquakes laying in heaping piles. Little to no one was outside except for those who were trying to clean up the area as best they could.

If the area looked like this now...

What would happen when things get worse?

As the girls arrived, the store was empty except for one cashier, who seemed eager to leave as they fiddled with their thumbs.

"W-welcome!"

The group smiled at the young man before going over to get what they needed quickly going in and out so they could go back to the rest of their friends as fast as they could...

...

...

"We're back."

"What was it like there?"

Yuri shuddered as their friends walked over, "the city looks terrible, it's like a movie became real life."

"The store was almost cleared out as well, thankfully we found what we needed."

Eunbi, Chaeyeon, and Yena began to sort out their materials, dividing them into three groups so each car would have an equal amount.

"How long will we stay here?"

"Well, it looks safe for now so... We should be fine here."

The girls sat down on the grass to eat lunch, all of them quiet as a slight breeze brushed past them. A soft tremor shook the ground, dying down after a few seconds but leaving the group tense.

"What the..."

Everyone glanced over to Nako, who was staring at the river.

"Nako-chan what's wrong?"

The Japanese girl pointed to the river, the body of water seeming to bubble.

"What the heck?"

"Is that... steam?"

"But it's not even hot out!"

The bubbling heightened as the girls stood up from their spots, the center seeming to have a lot of tension as ripples began to form in circles.

"Wait..."

"Girls, get in the cars."

As soon as Eunbi spoke, a steaming geyser shot out from the river, and the girls ran as quickly as they could as the ground around them trembled from the sudden force.

"Ow- fuCK."

Hyewon hissed as she slammed the passenger-side door closed, shaking her hand that was hit with the boiling water that sprayed around the area from the geyser.

"Chaewon, there's a first-aid kit and aloe in that black backpack."

Eunbi pressed on the gas as she spoke, glancing in the rear-view mirror to see if the others were following. Geyser upon geyser broke through the ground from the river, leaving a misty fog to surround the area.

"Hyewon-unnie let me see your hand."

The caramel-haired girl began to tend to the older's wound as Eunbi spoke again.

"Minju, text the others to see if they're okay."

The angel nodded, taking out her phone to text the others as Chaewon finished wrapping a bandage loosely on Hyewon's hand.

"You okay?"

The eldest held Hyewon's other hand so the girl wouldn't pick at the bandage as the photographer shrugged, "I'll be fine, just a minor burn."

"Eunbi-unnie, Kkura-unnie's asking where we're supposed to go."

"We'll just have to drive until we make it past Han River. We can't go inside the other places just in case the road's blocked or broken so we'll just follow this street and hope for the best."

The rest of the ride was silent, the mist slowly fading away as they got farther and farther from the river. The group finally stopped at what seemed to be an abandoned, but fairly clean, building, so they rounded their cars to the back and secured the area.

"Unnie, are you okay?"

Wonyoung ran up to Hyewon alongside Yujin after hearing what had happened from Minju, the photographer giving them both a smile.

"I'm fine Wonyo, Yujin, it was just a little burn. Don't worry about me."

She gave them each a pat on the head, "are you two okay?"

The two maknaes nodded as all twelve girls gathered around to plan on what to do next.

"We should stay here for the night."

"Yeah, and we should have four people guard for the first half of the night, then have another four switch with them for the next half."

Chaeyeon nodded and Yujin, "yeah, that's a good idea."

Eight girls were picked for their shifts, all of them either looking around or resting themselves as the day passed. They would move out as soon as everyone woke up the next day, going wherever the road took them...

A/N: A lot of "disasters" that happened/will happen will most likely be really unrealistic (like random geysers shooting out from a normal river and bursts of fire flaring out in the desert), and honestly I'm just trying to dramatize the story for effect... Please bear with me, some might be really stupid 🤡
