I didn't sleep that night, too afraid of the stallion behind me, gently holding me hostage in the bed. As he slept, I could faintly hear the crystal ponies outside. Still working. Never resting.

I didnt know what would happen tomorrow, but with every passing second a trillion scenarios would pass through my mind, each one worse than the last. Some of them involved Celestia. Most of them involved death. All of them involved Sombra.

When he finally got up and left the room in the morning, I had to hold back a squeak as he kissed my forehead. Once I could be sure he was gone, I opened my eyes, rubbing them slightly as the sun streamed through the dark crystal window. I buried myself under the bedcovers, finally drifting into a restless sleep.

I was awoken a few hours later by somepony gently prodding me. Groaning, I pushed the covers back and made blurry eye contact with a mare that looked about my age. She was wearing a maids uniform and held a tray of food on her back.

"I- um- I'm so sorry to have woken you... I can come back later-"

"It's fine..." I mumbled, sitting up. "What did you need?"

She stumbled over her words. "Ah, well- I was told to, um, told to bring you something to eat since- well- since you haven't left this room yet today and his majesty is busy with other matters right now..."

"Oh I don't need to eat anything, I'm fine really." Rubbing my eyes, I got a good look at the mare in front of me. She looked pretty scrawny, and her horn was covered in dark crystal. Sombra's doing I suppose.

"From the looks of things you could use the food a lot more than I could," I said, laughing a little. "You should eat it."

She shook her head quickly. "No, this food isn't meant for me. I will throw it away..." Trailing off, she turned to leave.

"No, you can't throw away food," I said, holding up my hoof. "Seriously. Eat it."

"I'm not allowed to."

"I'm telling you to eat it so I guess you're allowed now."

Sighing, the mare carefully removed the food tray from her back and set it on the side of the bed. After giving me a quick look of uncertainty and seeing my expectant face, she slowly began to eat the buttered toast. It took a few minutes till she fully realised that I wasn't going to reprimand her for eating healthily. As soon as the tray was empty, she excused herself.

The mare gave me a look of both confusion and gratitude before closing the door softly behind her.

Finally, I had done something good here. Maybe I could keep gaining her trust? I could have an actual friend in this hellscape! I knew that Sombra could never find out as it would end horribly for both of us, but if I was careful then this could be a way for me to regain my sense of happiness, my sense of self, even my sense of freedom-

Even if only for a half hour.
