When Cocoa Berry brought my breakfast that morning, I signalled for her to come closer to me. I whispered into her ear, "Sombra has asked the guards to be more alert when you come to get me breakfast, so we might not be able to speak much here. Is there anywhere else I can go to speak with you?"
She looked over to the door in slight alarm before nodding quickly at me. "As long as you're careful about not being seen," she whispered back, "you can talk with me in the kitchens. Do you know where they are?"
I nodded silently. "Mostly..."
"When you get down the stairs, there should be a set of double doors along the hallway. That is the kitchen," Cocoa said quietly. "There should hopefully only be myself and my two co-workers there, and I'll let them know you're coming sometime today, ok?"
"Ok," I said, nodding.
A knock came at the door and a guard peered around. "Everything fine in here?" he asked, eyes cutting into Cocoa Berry distrustfully.
"Yeah, it's all fine," I said, watching Cocoa retreat from the room. The guard nodded to me, closing the door behind them.
I got out of bed, beginning to pace around as I tried to think of an excuse as to why I was leaving the room. Maybe I was- getting something to eat? No, Cocoa brings those up to me.
Maybe- I could say I want to go to the library? That will have to do...
After waiting a few minutes, I opened the door.
"What do you need?" A guard asked, turning to me.
"Oh- um, I was just wondering if I could- um, go to the library?" I cursed myself in my head about stuttering so much.
"Allow one of us to escort you," he said.
"No, it's fine," I rambled quickly. "I know where it is and I don't want to bother either of you..."
"Well, if you're sure. Let us know if you run into any trouble." They stood back to attention by the bedroom doors. I quickly walked off down the hallway towards the library. As soon as I was out of sight, I changed directions and headed for the kitchens. I could see the staircase leading down at the end of the hallway and picked up my pace, anxious not to be seen by any passers-by.
Before I descended, I checked that no-one was watching. Satisfied, I slowly walked down to the servant chambers, seeing a large set of double doors halfway along the hall. That must be the kitchen.
I quietly slinked towards the doors and entered, breathing a sigh of relief as soon as they closed behind me. I made it.
"What the hell is she doing down here? Do you want us to be fucking killed!"
I turned at the sound of an unfamiliar voice. A unicorn stallion stood at the corner of the room, staring intensely at me as something boiled beside him on the hob.
"She's here to help. She's not with Sombra like we thought, I promise."
Cocoa Berry's voice rang out and I moved my eyes over to where she stood, on the other side of the kitchen, another unfamiliar pony beside her.
"This risk had better be worth it..." The stallion muttered under his breath.
