I woke up on the floor the next morning, the extinguished fire beside me a pile of ash. Stretching, I looked up to see a breathing lump under the bed covers. He was still asleep... I was never awake before him. This was- nice. For once I couldn't feel his lingering judgemental stare on my back.
I got to my hooves and looked around. The wind outside had calmed a bit, and I could see the sun beginning to rise for the first time since I set foot in this cavern. I walked over to the entrance, the bracing winds catching my muzzle. I shook my head, shivering slightly, and stepped back into the confines of the cavern. I turned to stare at Sombra's peaceful frame. What I really wanted to know was what he did when he left the cavern. Where was he going? There's nothing out here but snow, ice and dangerous creatures.
I crept up to the bedside, being sure not to wake him, and I stood there, watching him as his chest rose and fell, and his eyes behind his eyelids moved from side to side. What was he dreaming about? World domination? Murdering fillies? Could be both at the same time... Maybe he was dreaming about me? I mentally slapped myself at the mere thought of it. He doesn't even like me! If it weren't for the bond, I would be a dead corpse in the middle of the frozen north by now. I sighed. No use thinking of what could have been.
Sombra stirred, and his eyes opened a crack to see me staring down at him.
"Don't do that, it's creepy..." he mumbled, turning over onto his side, away from my prying eyes. I stood there, unsure of what to do. I've never seen him this lazy. How was I supposed to respond to him? Quietly, I walked around the bed and made eye contact with him. He groaned.
"What? You've never seen a king have a day off?" He frowned at me.
I blushed, stepping backwards. "I guess it just doesn't seem in your nature..."
"I've moved my plans forwards faster than I had anticipated. I am therefore taking a day to myself. I am able to relax if I want to, despite your obvious opinion of me."
I laughed. "I know, it just seems odd."
He sighed, mumbling what sounded like a swear word. "If you're just going to stare at me all day, you might as well get in." Huffing, he sat up and pulled the opposing bed covers back a little, before falling onto the pillows once more. Unsurely, I stepped into the bed, pulling the covers over my legs and laying my head against the pillows. We laid there in silence for a few minutes before Sombra turned around and took my frame in his hooves. He wrapped himself around me and my body instantly relaxed in his hold. I didn't question it. Since his frame was so much larger than mine, I felt like I had been completely enveloped. It felt- nice. As long as I didn't think too much about the pony giving me that feeling.
