Sombra led me through the winding corridors to the main doors. As soon as we were outside he pulled me in the opposite direction of his subjects and towards the outer walls, where it was quieter and more peaceful. I could barely hear the clanking of chains anymore, and feeling the green grass on my hooves almost brought a smile to my sunken face.

Trees surrounded us as we began slowly making our way through the greenery. I couldn't see any guards around. Maybe we were too far out for it to matter...

As we walked I could visibly see Sombra relax. His stiff demeaner melted away and he became the stallion I had known while we stayed in that cavern. I knew he wasn't gone.

"We are far from the empire's centre. You needn't be so tense Y/N."

I only nodded absentmindedly at Sombra's calm remark, my eyes still on the hunt for a spot we could dig from.

"There is a place near here that I would like to stop at, if you don't mind."

"Sure." I followed him into a small clearing, the edge of the wall only a few feet through the trees.

Sombra began to remove his armour, leaving it by a stump nearby. He beckoned for me to come closer. As I walked towards him, he lay down on the grass, the hint of a smile gracing his features. I laid myself down beside him and he rested his head on my flank, breathing out a sigh.

Seems like he needed this more than I did.

A soft breeze blew through the trees as we stayed there, motionless, watching the tree branches rustle  and leaves of all colours fall around us like natures art display.

I didn't realise Sombra would allow anything like this to exist within his empire. It's beautiful.

"I know you aren't happy here Y/N," he said softly, raising his head from my fur.

My head turned slightly so I could catch his eye. "What do you mean?" I replied questioningly.

"I could see it from the moment you stepped into this place. You weren't prepared for this," he gestured around us with a hoof, "for me."

"That's- I mean- I was-" I began stuttering, trying to form some kind of plausible sentence.

"Stop it," he sighed, burying his head back into my fur, inhaling deeply. "You're not used to my way of life and I want you to know that I'm willing to give you as much time as you need to become comfortable here." His voice was muffled slightly, but I understood what he was saying.

"You don't need to speak if you don't want to, I just felt I had to bring you somewhere more calming and let you know that you still have a place in my heart, however much you may doubt that," Sombra continued, removing his face once more from my flank.

I shifted my body around so I could fully see him. His expression was so genuine- I couldn't see this as a lie, no matter how much I wanted to.

He placed his hoof around my neck, pulling me closer to him. I didn't resist, my eyes searching his for any sign of ill intention... I couldn't find any. Our lips connected as the breeze around us began to pick up, whipping my mane into our faces.

We didn't care.

I continued to kiss Sombra as he held me tightly, leaves falling all around us. I dared not open my eyes in case it was all a dream. Tears started to roll down my cheeks as the inevitable decision to stay or leave drew nearer, its weight mightier than ever before.
