I finally came barrelling past the main castle doors and into the shining sunlight. Slaves walking past paused to see the commotion but I could barely register their existence. My hooves started to move independently of my body, blood pumping through my veins as my brain called on my fear response.

I shot past the slaves and guards, heart thundering, blindly running to wherever I could think of. As my hooves finally touched the grass of the empires edge, a roar shook the ground beneath me. No sound had ever spurred me on like that. I gasped for breath, my legs going so fast I could barely see them, and as I snuck a look behind me, everything inside went cold. He was already closing in. How the hell was Sombra that fast?

I began quickly weaving through trees and finally skidded to a stop in a familiar clearing. The crystal that had once blazed through the tunnel in my pursuit was now gone, save for a few tiny pieces lodged in the dirt. As I stared down at my source of freedom, Sombra came into view across from me. I could see him panting, his chest rising and falling in quick succession. His eyes were crazed as he looked at me, and I knew he was no longer in control of himself.

"Y/N, don't- don't leave. I wasn't thinking straight when I told you to run, I- I didn't mean it. Come back, we can make this work." He took a few steps towards me and I stepped away from him, closer to the tunnel entrance.
"Don't be foolish Y/N, there's nothing for you out there, you know this. Celestia- She- she's betrayed you. I'm the only pony left that you can trust."
"That's not true," I whispered, shaking my head. "You can't manipulate me into staying Sombra."

"You won't be safe out there Y/N. You think you'll be free? Freedom isn't even real." Sombra took another step, and one of my hooves moved back to rest against the tunnel wall.
"Sombra stop it," I snapped, "I won't let you convince me to stay. I said I'm leaving. I'm going to leave."
He grinned, eyes cold. His fangs glinted in the fading sunlight and I could see him weighing his options in his head.
"I won't let you leave," He finally muttered, his voice holding every threat known to ponykind. "You're mine, and you can't just choose to run to Celestia. I will keep you here if it's the last thing I do. Celestia doesn't care about you. I care about you. Celestia can't protect you. I can protect you. Celestia hurt you. I would never hurt you..."
Before I could stop myself, words tumbled out of my mouth. "You've hurt me so much! You've hurt me and the ponies around me to the point of no return! You're no better than Celestia, in fact, you're worse! I can't bear to be here any longer no matter the pain I might feel and by god you can't stop me!"

His grin vanished, and in a split second he lunged for me. I screamed, falling into the tunnel and missing his hooves by an inch. Without giving myself time to breathe I ran to the other side of the tunnel, spreading my wings to get out.

"Stop!"

I turned one final time to Sombra, who had his hoof out to me in an almost pleading motion. I faltered. No, I have to leave.

"You told me once that no pony holds power over you," I said quietly, my mind and heart finally releasing themselves from the grip of fear.

"What are you talking about?" Sombra responded, slowly lowering his hoof to the ground.

"You were wrong."
