Sombra eventually got up off the grass as the sun began to set. He slipped his armour back on then held out his hoof for me. I took it, getting up and following him out of the clearing and back towards the empire.

I kept my head down while walking through the busy streets, not wanting to make eye contact with anypony. Sombra brought me closer to him and draped part of his cloak over me, noticing how uncomfortable I was. He closed the doors behind us as soon as we entered the castle.

As we made our way back to his bedroom, a familiar pony walked past us towards the kitchens. Hazelnut Swirl gave me a side glance before scurrying away, and through the corner of my eye, I knew Sombra had seen it.

He didn't question me however, only calmly led me back to the one room I was familiar with.

As he closed the door and joined me on the bed, I couldn't help but smile at him. He'd purposefully let his walls drop to gain my trust and it was a sure sign that he was still good. He cared about me- in his own way. Knowing that he understood how I felt about his world and this life meant that I could be myself around him now. I didn't need to hide my thoughts from him.

Sombra gently pulled me down onto the bedsheets, turning my head to face his.

Though there were still remnants of his good mood poking through, I knew he wanted to ask me something. Something that was bothering him.

"What is it?" I said, raising my eyebrow.

Sombra took his hoof and moved my mane away from my eyes as he muttered, "Do you know that stallion from the hallway?"

I visibly tensed before I could stop myself.

He hummed in confirmation. "He was looking at you. He shouldn't have been."

His tone made me shudder slightly, and I tried to break the tense air by moving back from him. Sombra's magic held me in place before I even tried.

"Where have you been going the past few days?"

It sounded like an innocent question but at this point- I knew otherwise.

"The library..." I whispered.

"I can't help but think you're lying. But you wouldn't do that, because you love me, right? Because you trust me? Because we've just spent the day together and you didn't even attempt to run from me?"

"W-why would I lie to you Sombra-" I said, stuttering out my words. His hoof came under my chin, pushing my face up to further our eye contact. He watched me, his brain whirring as he made up his mind on what to do.

"We had better hope, for everyone's sake, that you're telling the truth. You had better have been going to that fucking library, and you had better not have been associating with the crystal filth in the kitchens." Sombra lifted me up, placing my hooves on the mattress and setting me free from his magic.

"You are not to trust them, understand? No matter how nice they may seem, no one else here cares for you more than I do. No one else here can protect you more than I can. And Celestia forbid," he said, pausing and stepping closer to me, the tension in the room making me shiver, from fear or excitement  I couldn't tell, "no one here will love you more than I will. Stay with me Y/N and no one, whether alicorn or earthpony, will ever hurt you."

Sombra closed the gap between our mouths for the second time in one day, his speech ringing in my head as I kissed him back automatically, my body separate from my own will.
