Even at night, Seoul's city lights burned brightly against the sky. That was one of the few things I liked about Forks. I never had to leave the city to see the stars. I sat on the hood of the car with Hoseok who had decided to take me out of the city. I hadn't expected him to come along with us, I'd thought he'd run Jin's restaurant while we were away, but Hoseok had waved it off and said that he had been away from home for far too long. The restaurant and the dance school could wait.
"yah, did you even listen to what I said?" it didn't even sound like Hobi was scolding me, but I still felt guilty. We had brought food from the convenience store and laid it out on the hood like a small picnic. I wished he had taken me to the Han river. I loved that place.
"I was looking at the stars."
"You get distracted when you're stressed. What's wrong?" I knew that he had a reason for taking me away from the city. In the city, I was subjected to the full day - meet my grandparents, go to the universities, talk to coaches, and so forth. It had been non-stop since I got here. I hadn't planned on spending my Spring break in such a hectic way. Namjoon had apologized and said that we could go and have a normal day soon, just me and him with no plans.
I was also bothered about Bella. I didn't know how she was feeling. Our time was limited to learning and the small quips I see of her in the evening before she went back home. I didn't like knowing I left her alone with a psychotic vampire on the loose and certainly I didn't enjoy how she had to spend so much time away.
I told Hoseok the situation.
"She's a big girl, Bella can handle herself," Hoseok shook his head. "She's not the first human dealing with a little supernatural on a Saturday."
"But she's..." I trailed on. I didn't know how to articulate it. "vulnerable. She's very much vulnerable. I don't think she's feeling okay and no one is there to help her if she can."
Hoseok leaned back against the hood of the car, propping himself up on his elbow. He was deep in thought before he continued eating his noodles. "She can call Yoongi-hyung, can she not? And Tae?"
"I don't think she'll ever call Taehyung."
If she had called him, it would mean something bad had happened. I kept Bella away from Tae, not because of what he does but more because she seemed to shy away from human-drinking vampires, like a normal person.
"She will survive one week without you, Guk," Hoseok reminded me. "Don't worry about it."
I allowed myself to soak in the moonlight a little bit more. At night, I felt my senses being sharper and sometimes I felt the need to just walk around not as a human but as a fox, maybe scare a few campers that were out in the mountains. I did it sometimes while I was out in Forks, but the longer I did it I felt it harder to change into a human.
My grandmother woke me up the next morning by slapping some wet cloth on my face.
"Don't think I don't know you went out eating with Hoseok-ah," she said with a toothy grin. She picked through my closet and threw something on the bed - the oversized modern hanbok I had bought because they were stylish. "You dress like you're a haraboeji waiting for his grandchildren."
"Maybe I was a haraboeji," I added cheerfully. I didn't remember all the lives my gumiho self had lived, I just liked joking about being wise beyond my years. People buy it sometimes.
"Pah, who said you lived passed your teenage years in the old lives?" grandma pinched my cheeks. "I'll make you some breakfast before the monk comes around."
The monk was well-versed in everything folklore and could probably help me with my problem. I didn't see it as a big problem, but Jin and Namjoon did. I didn't see why I had a deadline coming that said: "Rise of the Evil Fox - Coming to Cinemas Near You". The faster they appease the fox, the better.
