Renée and her husband picked us up from the airport. I heard her squeal from a mile away as we walked through the airport with our carry-on bags for the weekend.
"I didn't think Charlie would let you go all of a sudden!" Renée exclaimed. "That relief. We wouldn't have been able to fly up for graduation."
That was news to me, but it didn't bother me that much. I had long accepted that Renée put her relationship with Phil over me.
"My grandmother is coming over for graduation," Jungkook added as a piece of information.
"Oh, that's wonderful!"
It must have gone over her head that his grandmother lived on the other side of the globe. Renée chatted for a long time, telling us how much we were going to love Jacksonville and all the things we could do this weekend. I was suspecting that she would be dying for the details as I hadn't told her that Jungkook and I had broken up. That wasn't something I didn't have time to tell in an e-mail.
I was feeling sleepy. It was nighttime, thus there was no sun that could keep me awake or burn my skin. I had nearly forgotten that I had been dispatched from the hospital just that morning were it not for the stairs. I struggled with them once more, but Jungkook had taken my bag off me.
"I'd carry you up but," he held up the two bags.
"Punk," I muttered, but I couldn't help but notice the small twinkle in his eyes.
"Did you have a fainting spell again?" Renée looked at me worryingly from the top. "Should you sleep in the yoga room?"
"No, it's fine," I waved her off. "I just got out of the hospital."
"Just?" Renée exclaimed. "Goodness, what is going up there in Forks? Should I make you some organic tea?"
"No, no, it's good -"
"I'll make you some organic tea," Renée decided. "It will help you sleep."
And just like that, she skipped towards the kitchen. I finally reached the top of the stairs and was a little bit out of breath.
"I thought vampire blood was supposed to be healing," I whispered to Jungkook but whatever complained faltered as I noticed how the guest room only had one bed. I thought that Renée would at least add an extra mattress.
"It's cool, I can sleep on the couch if you want -"
"We've slept in the same bed before," I interrupted. "It shouldn't be weird."
"Only if we make it. I'm just surprised ..."
"That's Renée. She'll give us the talk, I bet 10 bucks."
Renée scampered in with her organic tea. "Sorry, if I'm a mess - I was so excited! And surprised, but you're not imposing don't you worry. Anything for my little girl..."
Jungkook chuckled and took the tea off her.
"You don't have any dietary restrictions, do you?" Renée questioned. "I will have you know this is a vegetarian and organic household."
"No, it's good," Jungkook patted his belly. "I'm... trying to go vegetarian."
"Oh I love it - you do know how to pick them, Bella," Renée winked. "well, I'll leave you kids to it - I mean, to sleep. Not to it, but if you do do that there are condoms -"
"Oh my god, mom," I felt my cheeks heat up from the embarrassment.
"I'm just saying," she held up her hands in protest. "Sleep tight! I'll see you in the morning."
