warning: The Character Assassination of Jacob Black as caused by Stephanie Meyer

The way to the Cullen's was silent. I looked out of the window the entire time, music playing lightly in the background. I nearly regretted wanting to hang out and wanted to tell him to turn around and let me go home.
"Are your college applications going well?" Edward broke the silence. He didn't keep his eyes on the road because he knew he could react fast. I felt his stare.
"Yes."
"Anywhere good?"
"Alaska. I got turned down for Washington. I haven't opened the others yet."
"You'll get in," he seemed sure of it. I didn't tell him about my plans to leave. I wasn't sure that he won't show up where I wanted to be and say that he was there because he just happened to be there.
"You know, I don't plan on holding you hostage," Edward said slowly. "I know we've been stepping on each other's toes lately, but I want to make amends. Clear the elephant in the room, as you say."
"Not in the car where I will live in fear that someone – that being you – will drive us off the road from anger."
"Do you have so little faith?"
"After you pushed me into a table and went suicidal at the vampire mafia? Yes. I have no faith in you."
He stayed silent until we pulled into the Cullen house. I didn't want to go into his room as we used to do, that felt too much. It felt like an intrusion. The living room was too open, anyone could walk in the room.
Then I remembered. The music room.
The grand piano stood where it always did, a heavy feathering of dust over the keyboard cover.
"You haven't played in a while?" I turned to him. Edward looked guilty.
"I haven't been able to play ever since September," his voice was low, nearly muttered.
I frowned. I remembered when I couldn't listen to music, and it took me a good crying session and a few runs to even work up to classical music.
"I couldn't listen to classical music for a long time after you left," I walked up to the piano and uncovered the keyboards. "Not until Jungkook helped me through it."
"You couldn't listen to it because of me?" Edward looked extremely tortured as I told him the story. I ripped off the band-aid, letter my fingers hover over the ivory keys. I couldn't play, but I knew certain tones and the simple keys to "Mary had a little lamb".
Then I remember the beginning on a K-Drama OST that Jungkook liked, but I couldn't play it fully. Only the first few notes, but it was enough to remind me
"Therapy involves a lot of catharses," I said softly. "I can't play for you, but you can play for yourself."
"May I sit next to you?"
"No funny business."
He stayed as far away as he could on the bench. Edward hesitated for a moment before he played the beginning few notes of my lullaby.
Hearing the song nearly broke me. I remember how he had given me a CD with his compositions for my birthday, but I never found it again after he had left.
I was so wrapped up in my thoughts that I nearly didn't notice that Edward's shoulders were shaking, as though he was crying.
If he were human, he would be.
