The table was cleared of any food immediately as Edward laid Bella on the table. I had no idea why Edward brought her here when Carlisle was also a doctor, but I didn't know what was happening as it stood.
Bella was not at full consciousness as she was twitching ever so slightly, a grunt emitting from her body each time a limb kicked out. Her hand which was still in a cast looked like it was going through its own problems like it was trying to gnaw its way out of the fiber cast.
I packed Edward at the chest and slammed him against the wall. He looked surprised, a fissure the size of Edward cracking the plaster on the wall.
"Explain. Now."
"Victoria's dead, but she got a bite in her before I could stop her. Victoria... only bit her. It was like drinking Bella burnt her. I tried to suck out the venom b-but -" he looked at Namjoon who was examining the wound while the others were holding Bella down.
"I couldn't. I felt like drinking poison. I think I only made it worse."
If the situation weren't so dire, I would have smirked. So my haelmoni was right about one thing. Rice repelled demons in religious ceremonies, so it would work one way or another with humans. I wonder if Yoongi figured that out at some point and that's why he has been offering the drink to everyone.
"Was it not your job to make sure that she stayed safe?" I raised my voice. "That was your one job today and you couldn't even do it."
"I'm sorry," Edward gulped as I let go.
"It hasn't reached her heart yet," Jin announced and looked around. "Taehyung-ah, what do we do?"
Taehyung stood there, his hands in his crisp beige suit pockets, contemplating. We looked at him expectantly, waiting for his verdict.
"If we don't do something she will turn into a vampire," Edward looked tortured as he said it and Jimin turned around, eying Edward.
"And what's so wrong with that?"
"No, no, she wouldn't want it now," I told them. "If we can, do something. Please."
"Tae, Jin, Jimin - please, save her."I looked at my three family members. Jin looked highly uncomfortable at the potential idea that I was implying, whilst Jimin and Taehyung were fine with it.
Taehyung sighed. He retracted his teeth, the canines turning into sharp knives.
"What are you doing?" Edward looked hysteric. I shoved him back against the wall again. I knew I was going to spend the rest of my weekend fixing the vampire-shaped cracks from the way Namjoon glared at me.
"Hold her down. Namjoon, this will be a fun, unorthodox blood transfusion. Hoseok, Yoongi, hold her arms down but if you need to leave, leave," Taehyung ordered. He walked up to Bella, pulling her hair to the side to access her neck.
"If it's worth anything, Bella, I'm sorry and this won't take long," Taehyung said as he punctured his skin to draw blood. It ran down his arm, staining his shirt, as he placed his arm right on her mouth. It looked like he was suffocating her. I heard a slurping sound and realized it was coming from Bella. She was drinking Taehyung's blood.
"What is this -" Edward looked bewildered as he struggled against my grip. I didn't fully understand what was going on either.
"Vampire blood, at least of our kind, has some properties," Jimin informed. "Her body was already fighting against the venom, but it has done some damage. We'll have to fix that and hope the blood will be okay enough."
"And the venom?"
"Unorthodox blood transfusion," Jimin said slowly. "What do you think that means?"
I already felt sick from the sight of Bella drinking from Taehyung's arm, but slowly her body stopped twitching and she seemed less like she was being burnt from the inside. Namjoon held an eye on the bite mark on her leg that was slowly disappearing.
And then Taehyung sunk his teeth into her neck.
I had to look away, I couldn't see it. I couldn't take the sounds either. It was gruesome to hear spluttering blood, and see it drip onto the table where we had just eaten.
I pulled Edward out of the living room and pushed him towards the door. I didn't want to see his face in our house.
"I'm not leaving while she's still dying!" Edward yelled at me.
"You, of all people, have no right to be in this room, in this house," I growled. "You can see her when we're done. Go back to the battlefield or whatever, but you are not welcome in this house."
"I can go where I want," Edward tried to twist out of my grip, but as soon as he touched my bare skin, he had to hiss. His hand was burnt where he had tried to grip me, but it healed slowly. He looked at me, a dawn of realization on his face. He tried again once more, but then I dragged him closer to the forest so that no one would see us. I let go of him, the unpredictability of the action making Edward stumble back. He couldn't read my thoughts when they were in Korean, after all. I felt my body change as I grew taller. What was once skin turned into fur as I towed over Edward. He looked up to me in terror as I pounced on him in my fox spirit form, knocking him backward on the forest ground.
"It was you? you are the reason why Victoria couldn't drink?" he seemed shaken up. "And back in Volterra too -"
"You see, Cullen. If you got out of your head for a little bit and learned more about the world, you'd figure out that you're not as invincible as you think you all are. And where a vampire is, there are always at least two mortal enemies. You're just unlucky that you have the wolves and a family of people who heed every superstition," I felt my claws dig into his skin. "If you set a foot back into this house without my or anyone's permission, with your dirty little hiking shoes too, expect to find an open door closed off for you."
"You can't do this," Edward complained.
"I can, Cullen, that's the thing. As I said, you can come back later and tell us all about the big clean-up."
"She's not going to like that you're stopping me - "
"Oh no this one is more for me than for her," I growled. I saw the area of his arm where I had pricked into them. His porcelain skin was scratched. I felt terrible that I had caused it, but I couldn't help but feel satisfied that I had at least knicked him a little bit for all of the pain he had caused Bella.
I slammed the door behind me, looking normal again. I didn't think Edward was going to leave. If anything, he would try to look at the scene through our minds.
"Punk," I muttered.
I gingerly walked back to the living room. The sounds had stopped. No one was holding Bella down anymore. Namjoon was checking her vitals and her leg once more, untying the belt around her leg.
"Her heartbeat is stabilizing," Jin muttered. "We could take her to the hospital. I don't think she should stay here like this."
"We could just say she got sick and fainted," Yoongi added. "It doesn't look like a vampire attack anymore."
Jin tapped the cast on her hand. "I'm pretty sure those bones are healed now."
"Guk?" Hoseok said softly. He already had his keys in his hands. "Do you want to come with me? Chief Swan will probably find out as soon as we get there. He might want to see a familiar face."
She was breathing shallowly as though she had simply fallen asleep. Her hair was matted to her face from the sweat. I pushed her hair out of her face. At least now, Bella looked peaceful. I noted her bracelet and the small wolf on it, frowning.
Gingerly, I took her off the table and carried her to the car. On the way out, Tae stopped me shortly.
"Try to make sure she doesn't die for at least a month," he said solemnly. "I don't feel like having her around as a vampire just yet."
I snorted. I knew I owed them big time, but for now, I was more concerned with getting Bella the help she needed.
