"So, it really is almost 70 years later? Why can't I remember that these people are my friends?" Shadow sat curled up in her emerald green blanket next to Steve on the couch.

"I am not sure. I think it has something to do with the mission we did a couple days ago. Do you remember anything about that at least?"

Shadow shook her head sadly. She was sitting next to her best friend, in a completely new place. They were now in a completely different time period and it all felt strange to her that she couldn't remember the time between 1943 to now.

"It is so strange...I mean, I just remember us all running through the misty streets of Brooklyn, trying to see who was faster than the other. Bucky was the fastest runner but he would let me win occasionally. Remember how you would always be last and somehow always covered in mud?" She started laughing lightly thinking about the memory.

Steve joined along. "Yes. I remember the scrawny boy that was always trying to keep up with his two friends. You guys would always make me feel better by splashing and rolling in the muddy puddles too. That way when we went home to our parents, they would just laugh at us and tell us to clean up for dinner."

Shadow remembered always being over at Bucky's house eating dinner with his family because Steve and Shadow didn't really have anyone to go home to. She started playing with the strings of her sweats as the silence swept in between her and Steve.

"Can you tell me about what I missed...or I guess just at least why I am here with these people?" Shadow asked softly. Steve softly smiled at her as she looked at him with soft electric blue eyes.

"Well about a year ago or so, there was a battle here in New York. Director Fury put together a team of 'special' individuals who could help protect the people and possibly even our world..."

"Who is Fury again?" Shadow interrupted.

"He is the man with the eye patch. He runs an organization called SHIELD. It stands for this really long name I am too lazy to say." Shadow laughed at Steve and motioned for him to continue. "Fury pulled together Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff, Thor Odinson and myself to fight another god who was Thor's brother and turned out to be your soulmate."

Shadow tilted her head, "I have a soulmate?"

Steve blinked at her question. "Uh...yes you actually have...well had two. Sorry but as far as we know, one of them was killed." Steve slowly pointed to the two soul marks that sat upon her skin. She looked in awe at both of the clear markings she had. She loved the intricate designs of the dagger and butterfly and was refreshed by the star that sat on her shoulder.

"Steve..." Shadow paused. She kept staring at the mark that lay on her forearm. Her eyes became glassy and her lip started to quiver slightly. "What was his name?"

Steve sat still and dreaded having this conversation with Shadow, knowing it would probably bring up bad memories. However, he still was finding it weird that she couldn't remember her soulmate. "His name was Loki. He was Thor's brother. The God of Mischief they called him. Both him and Thor were prince's of Asgard. You went there not too long ago to fight a Dark Elf and you saved Jane...Thor's soulmate."
