Shadow, Steve and Sam rode with Sharon back to the US Embassy in London. Working with the CIA did have its perks, but Shadow wasn't really impressed. She stayed silent as Steve and Sharon talked about Peggy and what had happened between D.C. and now. Her stomach was beginning to feel queasy as the car maneuvered through the street. Once they made it to the Embassy, Sam ran to the bathroom before the trio could make plans on where they needed to go next.
Shadow followed slowly behind Steve, her footsteps getting wobbly in her heels. Once they made it into the building, she took them off and held onto her suitcase as she walked. Sharon and Steve were oblivious as to what Shadow was doing.
"My mom tried to talk me out of enlisting, but, um, not Aunt Peggy. She bought me my first thigh holster."
Steve smiled at the thought. "Very practical."
Sharon giggled at his remark, only making Shadow grimace in disgust. "And stylish."
They all walked over to the elevators, Sharon now ready to head up to her room. Steve and Sharons interactions were making Shadow uncomfortable. A shiver went down her spine as she felt the temperature was too cold to her liking. She tugged the ends of her coat tighter around her body in hopes to stay warm.
"So...the CIA has you stationed over here now?" Steve continued.
"No, Berlin. Joint Terrorism Task Force."
Steve nodded, "Right, right. Sounds fun."
"I know right."
Shadow groaned, actually annoyed now at their interactions. "God ya'll sound like teenagers." She hissed lowly.
Only Steve could hear her as she mainly spoke against the fabric of her coat. "I've been meaning to ask you...When you were spying on me from across the hall..."
"You mean when I was doing my job?" Sharon interrupted.
"Did Peggy know?" Shadow looked up to gaze at the back of Steve's head. She could feel his guilt and his sadness. He still mourned but he knew she was in a better place.
"She kept so many secrets. I didn't want her to have one from you."
Shadow could pick up on the lie so easily. She wasn't sure what gave it away, but alarms in her head were blaring as Sharon spoke. Shadow wasn't sure what she was trying to do, but she didn't like it. She was just about to reach after his arm and pull him away from her when Sam appeared beside them.
"Steve...there's something you need to see." Sam quickly escorted them into a small conference room and turned on the television. Shadow fell into a chair off to the side and lazily watched the screen.
"A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vienna. More than 70 people have been injured. At least 12 are dead, including Wakanda's King T'Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they identified as James Buchanan Barnes the Winter Soldier. The infamous HYRDA agent linked to numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations."
They all watched with hard faces, worry evident not only for the team who was in Vienna for the signing, but also for Bucky. Shadow immediately began to mumble. Flashes and pricks to her body had been continuous throughout their trip to London and to the Embassy. "No, no, no, no. It's not him. It's not him. It's not him."
Steve and Sam picked up on her odd behavior. Sharon told them they would be traveling with her to Vienna, but they would go separate ways once they landed so the US officials wouldn't spot them. Sam walked over to Shadow who was slumped over in her chair.
